2006 ATTAK
Just sharing so people can find with the search function.
My 06 Attak with 12k kms suddenly decided to become very hard to start. It would cough, bark, belch, backfire occasionally and rarely it would start. I tried cycling the key and varying the number of times, I changed plugs, cleaned the fuel rail, drained the gas (91 octane) and changed to fresh 87 octane. When it did start it ran flawlessly. It would run all day, I took a couple of trips locally and didn't have any problems as long as I didn't shut it off. If I did shut it off it would be very hard to restart. Recently it just would not start, I went to take it out and no amount of heating it under a blanket, playing with relays or cleaning connections seemed to help. Tried jumping it, all the tricks I have read here in the forums (hold throttle partially open, wide open, etc). All I succeeded in doing was flooding the engine. Anyhow I took the sled to the dealer who after a week threw their hands up and said 'how much do you want to spend trying to get it to start'. Needless to say, I brought it home only to find out it wouldn't even turn over, the starter relay is fried and its throwing code 11. One of the forum members (Stubby Hungwell) said it sounded like the stator / pulsar coil. He had a spare which I purchased and he was kind enough to help me install it. After we finished the sled started immediately. Like better than it has in a long time. First off all, thank you Stubby, you are a sanity saver and one of the reasons this board is so awesome.
Notes; At no time did I get any other codes. The sled has not really started crisply in quite awhile. Despite solving the problem with the stator/pulsar coil I had previously not experienced any battery problems, in fact the battery is still strong despite draining it on multiple occasions and generally abusing it. This tells me it was probably not the stator, it was probably the coil. Anyhow, starts crisply now, and hopefully its fixed. It seems like there is a general problem around 12k kms or 8k miles where the pulsar coil fails. (on the older sleds, could be age not mileage) <- new comment. Anyhow, this was what fixed it for me, a few days later, a few trips later, starts in a second or two every time.

It was my pleasure, great to meet you. I don’t mind giving you a hand anytime you could use an extra. If the snow keeps falling I might actually bring my sled home from up North and we can get out for a ride together.Just sharing so people can find with the search function.

Haven’t really heard of the 11+ pulsar coils taking a dump like the older sleds were famous for. I’m at 12k + with no issues, and my Dad’s 11 is around 16k, also issue free.good to know the milage roughly. sounds like i should be ordering one for my 11 as it is at 11000 miles roughly atm.
