went out yesterday and noticed my apex is a bear in the corners. turns ok under throttle but when i slow down into some 90 degree turns, i have to fight this thing to turn with a lot of effort, almost feels like the bars are locked. any sugestions

Had similar problem just before Christmas. Though i was going to brake the bars in the tight stuff. Lift the front of the machine off the ground so skis are free and turn bars and see if there is any binding. I had to hit all the bushings in the steering colum down to the skis with penitrating oil and it freed everything up and turns better than last year when i bot it. I think summer sitting does something in there (moisture. dust.) Start with that.
;)!

I have found that the biggest culprit is the bushing that holds the steering shaft near the top of the shaft (above the chain case). Cleaning and lubing this bushing completely solved my binding problem that was identical to what you describe.

I doubt it - especially if you didn't change anything!

At the end of last season I had a miserable, hard-steering issue develop. My shoulders ached after a day of riding. I suspected ice build up, but thawing the sled did not help. When I lifted the front of the sled off the ground and suspended both skis the steering was easier, but mad a squeeking sound. This fall I tore the entire sled apart for various maintenance reasons (exhaust donuts, bearings, a-arm bushings, etc). While apart I cleaned and inspected every bushing on the steering post and the steering arm (running along the delta box). The 4" long, white bushing at the top of the steering arm was DEFINITELY the culprit. It was full of sticky black goo.

Friends with the same problem have solved it by lubing it up with silicone-type spray (without dis-assembly).

hey, rack up another point for yamaha on this one, not, how about some grease fittings, oh but that means i would of have to spent 13000

my steering is "squeeky" if you will. I must be right below the handle bars. is there an easy way to get to this area?

I sprayed some WD in through with the side panels off, at all the steering stuff I could see..I think it's where the post goes through a block..not the ball joints, at least on mine..I oil the ones I can see. In any case, I got it cuz it aint squeaking anymore.

it is just a tough angle for that block I cant get in there :o|

Just spray a stream on the post, it should run down..any excess will burn off from heat. I didn't do it with a hot engine, just in case. I soaked it, and it's been fine for weeks. It used to get sticky when the engine was hot.

Try putting some white (lithium) grease on the rubber steering boots. U can buy it in a spray can. I noticed that mine was stiff and the boot was binding on the steering arm, greased it and it's fine

I have a buddy who is 62 and he complains about the hard steering on his 2006 ApexGT to the point where he doesn't even want to ride.

Any solutions ? Same symptoms as above. He's thinking the bars are too narrow. He wants me to find him some bars from an 07 Apex. They are supposed to be 2" wider.
