My buddy calls me and tells me his Nytro wont start. I own an Apex, so I have a little background on common items with that sled so i go over to give it a 5 minute look, cuase i am pressed for time. I figure I will swap out the fuel pump relay and she will fire right up. I get there and this thing is carbureted. So not being well versed in common failures with this I figured I would come on here and see if there are some common items to look for before I head over there tomorrow with a little more time to burn.

Here is what I know:

It cranks over fine, but does not fire.

When I hit it with a shot of starting fluid it kicks like it wants to go, but does not reall stay running on its own. I am reluctant to push too much of this stuff into it, and am using it more as a diagnostic aid, than anything else.

He does no maintenence in the spring, so I am sure he has ethanol fuel with no stabilizer. I will bring fresh fuel with me to eliminate that possibility. I am thinking there is probably a 3 out of 4 chance that this is the problem, but if it isn't, I am looking for other fuel delivery issues that may be common to these sleds.

All fuses in small panel on right side under the hood are good.

Can anyone tell me if this has an electric fuel pump with relay like the Apex, or is it mechanical? I see what looks like a mecanical pump on the left side over by the carb rack.

Pressurize the gas tank while cranking it over. Happens all the time with these sleds in the off season. Locate the gas tank vent line at left footwell by belt cover or use a rag and try to pressurize thru gas fill hole. Don't get too crazy with pressure- just a bit to get gas back to fuel pumps. Pumps are mechanical- stacked next to belt guard. This should get it running- prob a good idea to also clean carbs.

every fall i have to put a new set of plugs in my '06. At least clean them. Wouldn't hurt to pull the carbs off, remove the bowls and clean the pilot/ main jets. You dont have to disconnect anything off the carbs. Just loosen the boots and you can turn the carbs over as an assembly.
