Ok guys, four of us bought new Apex's. I've got an RTX as well as my brother, both 144 studs and brand new. There's also an 07 GT and 07 GT Attack. We must have raced 20 times with the same results. We would all launch together side by side. After 1/4 mile me and the other RTX would stay together but the Attack and GT would start pulling away. The Attack was always the fastest by about 1/2 a sled. I know the RTX has the 22 tooth gear and the GT's have 23 teeth. I want the 23 tooth gear, will I have to get a new chain as well? We looked at the clutches and the primary and secondary springs are identical. I saw no performance advantage to having the 22 tooth gear. I could feel the sled top out and that's when the GT would creep away every time. We always race long runs. On a short 1000' run I could beat the GT sometimes but I had no clear advantage. Otherwise I'm happy with the sled with absolutely no complaints.

you are topping out with the 22 top gear..

Setup is key... Clutch alignment.. track looseness and how new your belt is..

The 06 GT's came with 24 top gear and I thought the 07 was the same. How is the hole shot?

The GT and Attack would holeshot every bit as good as my RTX, I had absolutely no advantage. The only place I was a little bit quicker was on loose snow but he would catch me at the end of the lake (about 1/4 mile)

07 Apex Gt is a 24, and the Attak is a 23. 23 seems to be the sweet spot on these sleds.

23 is best overal i think we all feel...GTs ALL come with 24.

you guys need to remember too, that ALL apexs/attacks are different...your never gonna get one same as another...

did you swap sleds?..most times you can swap riders and all results change too...this is something we always try to do..riders can make huge difference.

I would wait till all those sleds have 500 miles on them, and race again...i bet you will see some changes ....

nice to hear a GT winning for once...seems the GTs so far have always been slower for some weird reason....

the 07 RTX will never carry same top speeds,as that CK rear skid is not as fast, period.

No it was for corner to corner and out of the hole. Haven't lost yet out the hole and I weigh 240 with out gear. 112 gps was the best I saw and that was very hardpack with a 20mph tail wind. Athough turning around into the wind was 108 which tells me it's running into motor. Very fun sled and great for long haul trips.

What rpms are your 07 RTX's running. Maybe its starting to rev too high at top speed and falling off the power curve.

You shouldn't be running out of gear until at least 120 mph actual speed with decent clutch tuning (no machining required). Sure the 23/38 might have a slight advantage in perfect conditions, but not by much and in the real world (snow covered lakes), the 22/38 should be just as good.

We swapped riders, conditions, etc. The GT's were always faster in the midrange and on top. Are you saying the gear change won't help the RTX's? I could feel the sled nose over on top. I would hit about 10,700 rpm's or higher on long runs.

With 350 miles on mine yeasterday on a hardpack lake I was seeing 116 on the dreamometer on a distance of 1/2 mile with tach around 10,500-10,600. I still feel there is some more left with a longer distance. An Ulmer clutch kit might be just what the Dr. ordered for a better holeshot. I had no problem with an 06 Dragon ( 600 of course, with clutch work) but the one race against my bud with an 05 mach he had left a bit early and no way i could catch him but he really didn't pull away either, he said he saw 120, again I saw 116?

Mine is just a tick shy of 11000 rpm's. I know there was another post on here where the guy was looking for the 22 top gear for his GT because he felt that would give him the best top speed. Everybody is different. I use to turn 10700 to 10800 with newer belt. The belt I have on now has almost 1500 miles which might make a difference. I know when I race I just make sure I shut down before the others catch up on top because I'm always out front with the hole shot. lol

Just picked up my 07 Apex GT last Thursday and was on Rangeley Lake in Maine. Saw 124 on the speedo which was 110 on gps

Welcome to the site HONDAFIXER. If you still have low miles your number should get a little better after the motor breaks in.
