ahhh what a time for my starter to fail. :whine: 1 week before a big 5 day tour planned and booked.
Heres my dilemma... my 07 VT Lite has chewed trough 2 batteries (last year and this) before the dealer diagnose starter draw killing batteries. (draws 300crank amps)
They report starter not rebuildable and cost for new is $460 plus 6 hrs labour. (this is Canadian $)
I'm stumped and will not pay this kinda coin.
What recourse is there.
I've gleened they had a problem with these (starters) from this forum but no one has said out right its a recall.
Whats the scoop on 07 Venture /Phaser starters?

If they have concluded the starter is bad, then you are going to have to most-likely get a new one. If it is drawing high amps, it probably has a short in the stator.

I would go back to the selling dealer and point out that starters are a typical problem. Ask them to call Yamaha and see if they will spring for the parts. Did you do a search on these forums about the potential recall. It seems to me there was some chatter about that. But, I do not follow that forum closely.

Do you have any shops up there that can rebuild the starter? You might do a search on goggle.

If pleading your case does not at least get you the parts, then you may want to search on E-bay for a starter. You may try posting a Wanted To Buy on our Classifieds forum, too.
