Being as my last thread got hijacked I thought I would try this again. The 4 stroke seems to need some more track on the ground to take full advantage of its torque. But is there a trade off in other area's ? ?

For those that have ridden both do you see the 136 as a detriment in the woods or when riding hard ?

What, if any top end loss is there with a 136 ?

Any other thoughts are appreciated !!

I did the 121-136 conversion on my '06 Apex..I used a Muffinworks kit...The sled feels different...Not much but there is a difference in the ride....Riding over the studder bumps it is smoother..but when you get into the larger bumps that are furthur apart I found it harder to keep the ride smooth..It feels like the back end pops up putting me in a nose down attitude when hitting the next mogul..Don't know if this kind of info is what you are looking for

If you are used to playing hard in the twisties with a 121 sled, and you convert that same sled to a 136, you'll never be happy with it in the twisties again. That's not to say there are no positives regarding the conversion. I'm talking about hard play in the twisties, period. 4s or not... Yes, there's a lot of extra power going to the ground with the Apex engine, but from a trail riding perspective, a Cobra track will hold that a lot better than most are willing to believe.

Your comments are exactly what I am thinking. Yet I see so many say they would never go back to a 121. But, I am starting to realize Apex riders are older and don't ride as aggressive as alot of 2-stroke riders. Probably part of the reason they went 4 stroke in the first place.......

I am young and like to ride hard with my friends...I also get to switch between my mom's (121) often when she is along. I find the there to be a minimal difference between snowmobiles and handling if any I believe you could get a 136 to ride to your liking, but that is just me, but as rule of thumb setups equal a 121 will handle better. I will say truthfully however, if you are looking for more top end go with the 121, I see consistently 5-8 mph difference between long track vs short tracks (i ride 2 136s regular).

I love the way the 136s ride and in a race transfer, studs, etc being equal in 1000' a 121 would be at a disadvantage. If you ride mostly wisconsin trails (tighter twisties etc.) like I do I would probably go with the 121 (found a better deal on the attak), like ahicks said, get traction where you want it to be with a track upgrade or studs and you will hook as well as the average 136.

On another note, our 121 has 2500 miles on a pair of slides that aren't even worn to the break in line. On one warmish day our 136's could wear through if we didn't watch them.

I have a '09 LTX, my bud has a '07 121". I outweigh him by about 100 lbs. He claims that when we get in any kind of powder I start to pull away with my longer track. As far as groomed trail riding, my sled definitely pushes in the corners more. We have switched several times. BUT, now that I put on Bergstrom tripple points with ski savers and shims, no more push at all. Actually bites real well. I will never go back to 121"

I have 09 Ltx, My friends have 06 er,rtx. Just this weekend I took theres for a ride. It was definatley fun on a 121" the bumps are harder I can get more air off 121 than my 136.
The only downfall I feel to my 136" is the cornering, it takes a lot more effort to steer a 136" than a 121". My arms are tired at the end of the day. I just bought a set of pilots so we will see they felt great on my friends 121". AS FOR THE "TIGHT AND TWISTIES" I have no problem keeping up with the 121's. we are all pretty equal riders and are usually in a tight pack when we run hard no matter who is in front.
On the lake I get beat everytime though. My buddies ER is 1-3mph faster on a lake, my other buddies RTX,with an ulmer stage 2, gets me off the line, sometimes on hard pack I can stay even, but he seems to have me by 1-3mph.
Overall I love the 136" it was my first sled so riding anything with a shorter track is different to me. Kinda like someone going from a 121 to a 136.
136 fly over stutter bumps all day no problems, with 7.1kg spring and pioneer revalve

I made My RX-1 into a 136" really liked the 121" as they are both fun, although ya can really feel it pull alot more with the extra track on the ground. I always change to longer after the first track wears out.
