Yes, we have riding in the Northern half of Maine. Got lots of snow. The railbeds are open. Some grooming taking place. Spotty in places.

As some of you may have already read my past posts, I undertook the task of stretching my 121 to 136 and installing a 1.5 Intense track. I also geared it down to 23/39 with white secondary spring, put on an Excell pipe, Doo drivers and fully clipped the track. Also put on the Yammi marginal snow kit, 4th wheel, and 2 sets of Fix mid wheels.

Sooooo, after much hand wringing, wondering if all will work fine, I'm happy to find out that it really works nice. The clutching is spot on for the setup, and the track hooks like crazy. The gearing/clutching makes the sled excellerate like it never did before especially with all the traction. The pipe is a bit loud for me, but it does sound sick. Alls I can say is it will take a darned well sorted out sled to get around this one on normal snow covered terrain. If anyone is considering a 1.5, I can't say anough about this one. Jay

cool. got a 1.5x136 I am putting on a nytro, gonna leave the clutching and gearing stock and see how it works.

Should be geared low anough already. If it bogs on takeoff, just throw in a stiffer secondary spring.

The problem is it doesnt have the snap that the attack has when stretch a 121 to a 136. Big difference in the gearing between the attack and the Apex. Plus on top of the longer track there are taller lugs and its fully clipped. Thats all extra rotational weight that takes away from the stock apex gearing. After i streched mine last year I thought it was fine too until I rode my buddies attack and it was like night and day. Just geared it down and added the spring and shimmed out the clutch to get some top end back.

Well I have never had any track other than the 136" ripsaw, but I also put on the intense this year and what a difference. I almost sold my sled with 200 miles on it because I would get stuck in the ditches with that ripsaw. One time a F150 pulled me out on the highway, how embarrassing. That intense sure keeps this thing pushing through the snow. If anyone here has any regrets purchasing their Yamaha, put the intense on and that thought will go away.

Did you have to modify the tunnel protectors at all?

I think some have removed the factory protectors all together and others just notch the track with a utility knife right above the windows.

I elected to remove the protectors instead of notching the track. It made better sense for me. I needed to remove the seat and tank for an excell exhaust installation, so I was already there, this way I didn't have to carve up the track. They could be re-installed later if need be, Just a PITA. By the way, with just the excell exhaust on the bike, it runs rich on cold startup and also down in the lower RPM band. I can smell it. Would the pod fuel trim procedure fix this. I know most guys are richening them a bit because they did the airbox mod with pipe, but until I get the airbox, it seems rich.

An 1.5" Track will still clear the protectors. I installed mine last season and had no issues with the track rubbing the tunnel protectors.

The rRip may have no issues, but the Intense needs to be clipped at the window area. It may rub on some sleds and if it doesn't it gets darn close. Some people choose to try and run it as is and let friction do its thing. I had all summer to muck around with it so I chose to take the aft end of the sled apart and do a lot of different things to the sled, and be done with it. So far it all works good. The sled needs a little dialing in, but it works a lot better.
