I'm thinking of shortening my XTX skid, I ride alot on the trails/fireroads in the mountains and my brother keeps out handeling me on his old trailing arm Yamaha, I'm close though.
If I could find some 136" rails and pickup a 136x1.5 track I think the sled would finally be perfect for me.
Anyone seen anything along these lines ?
Thanks

adjust your suspension more and dial it in. you will get it.
shortening your skid? thats preposterous!

I've been tuning for 500 miles and have it working very well in the high speed stuff 50-80mph, but the slower the turn the more it understeers, has trouble in the 25-40mph stuff, mountain roads.
Most of my sleds have been 136" 1.5 tracks and I'm finding its a better comprimise between powder and trail than the 144 x 1.5 that I'm using now.
Just wondering if anyone has seen this mod

Change out those stock skis for Kimpex Arrows and relocate the swaybar mount to the forward hole adjustment on the lower A arm, which will help ease inside ski lift. I don't know how the XTX skid is, but if you could somehow pull down the back end of the suspension down, that should help as well. Then take it for a rip and see if that's better.
I haven't seen anyone shorten their skid, but maybe you could swap suspensions with someone with a shortie who wants an XTX skid here? I'm sure you'd find many who would oblige.
Did you read this thread?

A lot of info here.
Good luck

Grimm,
Already have the sway bar in forward hole, rear transfer rods all the way up and the front limiter strap in the 2nd hole (going to try the third)
I am using the stock ski's and runners at the moment, I'm going to try a ski upgrade before the skid.
Thanks for the tip on the Kimpex ski's

well
you could have saved alot of time by saying u were still on stock skis.
can those things!!! cheapest rte is pilots skis. i run simmons and they turn and float very well!! (however turning the bars while stopped is impossible)
however alot have gone pilots and say they work well. steering effort is reduced. u need doo rubbers for those skis boot.

Lower the front end by removing all the preload from the front springs,(or get hygear triple rates) then remove all rebound and compression from the front shocks (fully CCW). Next set the center shock preload to 10MM and remove all weight transfer. Then get a set of 6.9 pilots with 6" shapers in the middle and 4" stockers on the outside... thenuse ZX mounts and trim the front side of the mounts to match the shape of the spindle on the front side only. Your sled will rail. I was a very outspoken critic of the XTX's handling but, am now a believer with this set up.

RHOAG,
I have the Hygear Triple rates installed with the 1/2" top spacer removed, lowerd the nose around an 1 1/4". I'm running zero rebound but quite a bit of compression, the nose has always felt too soft to me and does bottom hard occasionally so I've kept the compression firmer to try and help the spring rate, will try the zero compression on the next ride. Not sure what "Fully CCW" means ? I will set my center shock spring preload to 10mm ( I weigh 160lbs w/out gear ), it is currently set on full preload. What do you think of setting my limiter strap to the third hole ? currently 2nd hole. I already have the weight transfer rods set at zero. Sway bar is in forward hole, I have the backcountry track 1.75 X 144 and I have the torsion spring spacers from Hygear, also have the OFT steering relocator.
Thanks for the ski Advice, I'm tempetd to try a big carbide on the stock ski's, they seem so light, are the pilots as light ?

Zbroz racing had some extra wide A-arms on there website earlier this year. Not there now, but try calling them. That would really help the handling.
