2" track, on my xtx.

Some people say you can't get the ski doo drivers unless you buy them ont he shaft, but others say you still can get them. So I dunno, it must be difficult to find them

Avid are the best drivers you can get if you ask me. They wear very well and are tough. But I'm not sure how the doo drivers compare.

Wahl Brothers drivers are pretty cheap. You could look into getting a set of them for a lot less than Avids. They wear out a lot faster than avids if you run your track loose...but if you keep your track snug then they seem to hold up well, although not as well as Avids.

Thanks alot, I found a dealer that will supply a shaft with drivers installed, i think I am going to go that route. Wahl bros drivers, installed on an OEM shaft for $300 +shipping. Seems like the way to go. Might drop to an 8 tooth just for clearance purposes and change the gear. :rocks:

If I could re-do when I changed drivers on my nytro, I would have dropped to an 8 tooth. More clearance, and its like dropping about 2 teeth in the chaincase.

Plus with 8 tooth drivers I could have ran the track I now run on my doo, 1.375 sno pro with long studs. Hooks up awesome.

Only negatives I've heard is on the xtx dropping to 8 tooth drivers messes up your approach angle a little bit, so you'd probably lose some top speed. But you are putting a 2" track on, so obviously top speed isn't your main concern. I would do it.

Sorry about the questions, hah as you can see above my name, definitely a Newbie. Smaller driver will equal a steeper approach angle, causing more trenching, and less top-end. But if i counter the approach by pulling my limiter straps up a hole or 2 it will make my steering alot heavier correct? ugggh, no winning!! lol always has to be something! Toys toys toys. :o|

Yeah thats correct. But by dropping only 1 tooth on your drivers I doubt the change will be too significant. Will it change the approach angle to make it as steep as the RTX nytro is? I'm not sure, but probably not.

I would do it. I've read of other people on here switching to 8 tooth drivers and I didn't hear any complaints, so it must not be too big of a deal.

I've replaced the stock track on my XTX with a 2" Camo Challenger. The tunnel and heat exchanger protectors have to come off for sure, but the 9 tooth drivers can stay, there's plenty of room. Why bother changing the drivers? All it does is slow you down by 11%, changes your approach angle causing more hyfax wear, and robs a little bit of power with the track having to wrap around a smaller radius.
Why go to extro drivers unless you run your track so loose that it ratchets?
I still run stock gearing and clutching and find NO difference in performance only that you can boondock anywhere you want without getting stuck.

I think I'm going to whack all the protectors off, swap the track, and just see how it is for the rest of the season. If i'm not diggin it i'll do the drivers in the offseason. Thanks everybody for the input, i'll let you all know how it goes! Tons of information guys, love it! :rocks:

I ordered an 1 1/2" track last year and somehow ended up with a 2" challenger. I decided to try it out, it was the best thing i ever did. I took out the tunnel protectors (including the heat exchanger protectors) i would highly recommend switching to an 8 tooth extrovert driver. I got mine from Hartman. Gearing it down wakes this thing up!! I ride alot of trail but love the deep stuff now, last winter i found i would get pretty hot running on fresh groomed trails when it was really cold out, i put the MTX cooler in on my new sled and so far i noticed a huge difference temp wise. Rode on a lake today with marginal snow and my temp was avg 170. I say go for it!!

Wahl Bros. is a cheaper alternative to Avids, put them on my sled.

I used 19-40 with 2" track works great.
You don´t need new drivers on the XTX.
Got Turbo and still no need for drivers.

even if you cut it down to a 1.75 you will have to grind the protectors off.

No, you absolutely won't. What you'll need to do in notch the track to 1.5" above the heat excahnger protectors, and leave the rest at 1.75". That give you lots of clearance, and it leaves the protectors in place incase you ever decide to put a 1.25" studded track back in there.

I made a template out of a piece of plywood and used a utility knife to cut it down. You'll need to do something similar to cut the 2" track down anyway, so as long as you're going wild with a blade, you might as well do the notches.
