Can anyone tell me why the front shocks on the mountain sled are shorter than the ones on the short track rx1. Is there any benefit to this? I have to change my front shocks on my 2003 rx1 short track, so I'm wondering if this is a viable option, I ride both on and off trail, ditches and such, nothing too deep and I am a beginner rider to say the least. Thanks for the help

My rx1 has 121 inch track and the ski with is 42.5 inches across my better halves rx1 mountain the ski with is 38.5 across . In other words the control arms are shorter on the mountain sleds therefore shocks are shorter hope this helps

Thanks for the reply, but have you measured the A arms, according to the yamaha parts finder, the A arms are the same part number, so they should be the same length.

What would be the purpose of this, is it better to have less ground clearance or a narrow ski base in deeper snow.

Has anyone put the shorter front shocks on their rx1 121?

I just measured the control arms the top ones on the mountain it is 14 inches aproximately and the short track is 16 inches aproximately I don't know why it would have same part number . From what I heard the reason for narrower stance on the mountain is for maneuver better in deep snow hope this helps

Did you use Yamaha's part finder on their webpage or a dealer's like Port Yamaha? The reason I ask is that on Port's part finder Kevin said both models used the same microfiche so, for example, it listed two different part numbers for the upper a-arm (#29) which made it difficult to determine which a-arm was for which model. If you check Yamaha's part finder, it only lists the one part number and brian73 is right in that they are different in length; Mtn being shorter. Hope this helps. ;)!
