I have an RX-1 and last season I read here that the 2005 RX-1 was going to be a major overhaul (hard to believe considering this is a new machine). Do I wait for 2005 for this bigger, better, faster RX-1 (is this rumour even true?) or do I go for the Warrior now and enjoy the cures for what ails my RX-1 (like the heater setting memory, thicker seat, more stability and better track).
For the 700 Venture, what the hay guys...I've been waiting patiently for a 4 stroke Venture. This year they overhauled the Venture but stuck with the 2 stroke. So what's the chance we're going to see a two up 4 stroke next year? Not likely. If that's the case, maybe I should trade my 2001 Venture in for the new one.
Yamaha needs to provide more data on what's coming so we consumers can make better decisions. I'd hate to buy a 700 Venture 2 stroke now if they come out with a 4 stroke next year. I'd be pissed if they come out with a way better RX-1 next year.

welcome to the board.
As for your million dollar question, I have the 03 as well and maybe looking at an 05. I did hear that there will be 4-stoke siblings and a more improved RX-1 for 05, but there will always be something better next year no matter what. I'm going to enjoy my 03 this season and if there are enouph positive changes for 05, I will load one up. my.2c

For what it's worth I will give my observations as I am also in the same situation. I don't feel there has been enough changes to warrant a trade up to a Warrior. Don't get me wrong...I LOVE the Warrior but I feel that there are alot of miles left in my 2003 RX1's so why not get your money's worth? I intend on hitting the 10,000 mile mark this year.
I have also heard that 2005 will see an entirely re-designed RX1. I am seriously hoping for an lighter weight sled using EFI and more improved rear skid using the 136" Ripsaw. I do suspect a new engine may also be in the works but this is speculation BUT...I have heard the same stuff from entirely separate sources....All new sled, all new design etc. etc. etc. The one thing I have learned about Yamaha is that play their cards close to their chest so nobody will ever know for sure!

were do you guys hear all this crap from your dealers that dont know #*$&@ from sam .....
that new r1 motor will not be in a rx1 for a couple of years.
they have not even perfected it on the street yet alone trail.
man you guys must be board or somthing to dream up that stuff ,or you found some realy good pot plants in the bush when you were out huntting?
look at the time spans on the yamaha line up
they go in sprints .... srx 98 to 2002
vmax 4 92 to 97
you might see new sleds but not a new rx1 they still have not worked out the bugs in the one we got now ....
so yea i can see maby a 4 stroke 600 or 700
but not a new rx1 ....
i guess time will tell

Marc, Nobody knows nothing for sure but yamaha needs to do something with their linup for 06 emissions. I was told that they are focusing on 4-strokes for the total linup so common sense says they don't need a 650pound 600cc 4 cyl to fit the venture/viper segment with less hp than the rx. If this is the case yamaha will lose alot of cutomers to the Skidoo camp. The frame/bulkhead on the RX-1 seems to be built for a big inline 4 cylinder, but a big 4 cyl is where the bulk of the weight is and a 600 cc 4 cyl is'nt much lighter. Who knows what they come up with, but I can see them pulling something lighter in weight from their invintory of motors for cost reasons and turbo the sucker for the new light weight RX
Ever look at the RX-1 with the hood up and think what it would take to bring the driver forward and up like the REV? Not to much work for what I can see.

I'll bet we see EFI in 2005 on the RX. I'll bet we see a smaller engine unit that provides better fuel economy and lower top end/acceleration.
If you look at how the YZ400 was developed into the YZ450 I could see Yamaha doing more with this engine. They created a solid runner with the RX-1 and now they can start to try and make it lighter and lighter to stay ahead of the others. You may think Yamaha is just sitting around enjoying the success of thier 4 stroke but they are continuing to try and make it better and better. They needed to prove the performance of the 4 stroke and now it will only get better .
