I just picked up a very clen 2005 Rage for a second sled. My question is there any hope for the pro-action skid? Can you get these things to ride decent or is a skid swap a better choice? I never had a Yammi with the pro action before only Mono shock and the Nytro XTX. The ride seems very harsh--you can feel every little trail bump.

No Action suspension. That's what I call them & as far as I'm concerned, no, there is no hope for them in the RX/RS Deltabox chassis.

I have rode old Vipers & SXRs and in that chassis they work OK, but not in the newer chassis.

I have ridden a friends '03 RX1 & it was terrible. Just as you say, rough as chit. Feels like about 3" of travel before the valving becomes so stiff it seems to stop the travel.

properly tuned they aren't too bad. Biggest thing, at least from what I've noticed, is that they absolutely need enough pre-load. If half your travel isn't used up with you just sitting on it, its going to beat you up.

Are you saying the preload on the springs need to be very soft? There are quite a few adjustment on the rear--more than most.

Yeah should have phrased that better. Suspension sag needs to be quite a bit, so soften the pre-load more than you usually would. I haven't spent a huge amount of pro-action tuning like some guys, but I've heard of removing nearly all pre-load from the rear shock and tuning with the front one.

from the little I rod my wife's new to her 2005 rage I think it rides better than my apex xtx!

Get rid of it....quickly!

I've owned a 05 vector for 11,000 miles so I can add a little help.. I put a re-valved clicker shock on the rear most shock. Set it about in the middle, it does help.. My pre-load on the springs are in the middle.. Remove the rubber stops or at least put them with the most clearance "3rd" hole down.. Run the front coil spring at the softest setting.. This helped mine.. My wife's 01 V-max still is smoother.. Oh sigh.. :o| :drink: MM.

I had the No Action in my RX-1 and although I'll admit that I didn't play with the settings very much it was night and day when I swapped it for a Mono skid. The Mono soaks up the bumps way better IMO.

http://vimeo.com/20218037 is the link to yamahas proaction tuning video. they can ride really well if the time is taken to set them up properly.

The Pro action can be made to work, you have to spend the time to set up properly. Using revalved and adjustable shocks is a huge improvement over stock. I have a set of revalved shocks with zero miles on them that I planned on installing on my Rage but sold the sled. Pm if interested.

I had my front skid shock re-valved by Pioneer and added the recommended spring along with an Ohlins rear skid shock. It was drastically better than the stock set up but before I spend my money on shocks and springs the M-10 still gets my vote as the best way out plus it weighs about 20 pounds less than the stock Pro-Action CK and you don't need to replace the junk plastic bushings every year or upgrade to metal bushings... another added expense in an attempt to correct the problems with this skid.
Oh! And let's not forget the broken W-arms that will come down the road!

Just to clarify the Rage had the ProAction and the Vectors had the ProActive CK skid! Two different skids entirely!!
