Ok, so I got a little seat time on the beast last Saturday (54.3KMS).

- Background. I had the 03 RX1, 8000KMS, 06 Apex Gt, 5000KMS.

- Sled. Stock and all settings left factory other than GYTR front shocks.

- Conditions. 6 to 8 inches of snow, some packed down good from the trucks on the road. Sunny and -6 Celsius.

- Break-in. I unloaded at my usual spot (Fish Hatchery). Let it warm up 5 mins and hit the snow. First thing I noticed was it seemed to have a lot of weight transfer. Just touching the throttle the front end came up easy.

The first 15KMS I kept the revs between 6-7500 RPM with the occasional burst to 9000 RPM then stopped for a quick cool down. Heat exchangers were warm to the touch.

Next 35KMS gave it a little harder with some full throttle pulls 4-5 seconds and man does this thing pull. Then back to the truck to check it over.

After a 30 min cool down I went back out to the road for some full throttle runs, 5 in total. I've used this same stretch of road on every sled I have owned. Distance between poles was 1200 feet and flat with 3 inches of decent hard pack. Traction was a issue so I had to feather it up to full throttle. All runs showed 105-106 MPH and still climbing fast.

Clutching. Yamaha hit the nail on the head with this setup. Engagement is low (31-3200) and mid range cruising revs are low also. This keeps it in the meat of the torque and should give great fuel mileage. When you get on the gas the revs climb slow. I'm sure its like this to take advantage of the extra torque. Remember, you don't want the RPM to climb like a peaky 2 stroke. Slow and steady wins the race here especially with this new motor. After the 5 runs I shut it down and checked the clutches. They were slightly warm and had no black rings.

Suspension. Road was flat so can't say.

Power Steering. Any heavy sled should have this. It is one hand operation, effortless at all speeds. One thing I did notice was when getting off the throttle at speed the front did not dart. My 06 was bad, almost dangerous in these same conditions IMO.

That's it for now, time for beer and whiskey.

Does the whiskey and beer mean you are happy with the purchase?

Pretty sweet pics making my mouth water, is your sled picked, how do you like the 128 can you tell the difference

sx7001 do you have studs installed?

If so what length and have you noticed any clearance problems.

Kaz

The biggest difference I felt was it had more power. You could feel the EPS but conditions were not ideal for any real test. No studs yet but the track is all drilled and ready. I think Yamaha has finally built the perfect GROOMED TRAIL SLED!!!!!!!!!!! For me anyway.
