2018 SW xtx 141 ride quality

I would liked to try the 2019 that had coil overs instead of floats. May have solved, or at least greatly reduced the bottoming.

Well - I think I am going to pick up the 2018 xtx 141 if it still available next week. I'll plan for some mods to the rear skid. Really appreciate all the guidance. The biggest factor for me is the uncoupled skid. I'd rather slow down a bit on the trails and have better off trail capabilities. I can keep up with my nytro xtx now so I am assuming the SW xtx will handle even better. The nytro just seems to require a lot more body input to ride it fast and find I can be really tired at the end of the day. The best mods I did to it were the OFT steering relocate and the rear Star kit. Admittedly there is a list of mods that is simply ridiculous. It was like chasing a ghost because every time I ride it you can feel the potential in the machine. I am also tired of not being able to carry much - last year my ROTOPAX fuel can flew off somewhere along our trip and I never did find it. It also can be a cold ride! Having said all that I will be sad to see it go because it is a very fun ride.

The only time I have ever struggled was when the trails get chewed up - those ski doo 850s really seem to be able to soak up bumps! I suspect the new Poo Assault is the same - really amazing suspensions in those machines. I'd love to buy one but in my opinion the reliability just isn't there yet.

Have you tried the Star kit for the rear skid?

I put in the Star kit on my 2015 Apex XTX LE , and it was great , as it eliminated the binding and had great transfer .
I believe the Viper kit is not the same , but is only shock work .
Only shock work may do the trick , just less expensive , due to differences in the suspension .

The Star kit for the 141 has multiple options including adding torsion springs and a progressive rate adaptor. In the end it may be cheaper and most effective just to replace the shock. I plan to call them if I pick up the xtx..the owner Robert is a pretty straight forward guy to deal with. Surprised that there is not more info on it.

I just looked at the 141 options , that looks more like what was available for the Apex, as compared to the 129 and 137 fixes.

I rode a Nytro for many years and I agree with your summary of it.
You may have struggled to stay with 850's, but now you will leap frog them, except on really tight trails.
Put a 250hp tune in it someday, then you will really toy with them.

I have searched the reviews in this sled. Seems there are concerns about the Fox 3 shocks. Most people seem to favor the 137 Ltx mainly because of the shocks .

I like the longer uncoupled 141 track but don't want a harsh riding sled. Approx 70% trailing ride but I really enjoy the option to plan in the deeper snow. Does the xtx ride poorly with the air shocks? I found a used 2018 xtx that I like, but would really appreciate some feedback before spending that kind of $$$$$
Hi I have a good friend I ride with some times,he has that same sled, and believe it or not,and it still had the stock skis on it. Man it pulls nice, and handles just fine, and we have some great big trails, and also small tight twisty ones too,it rides great and still handles very good. His sled came with the stock 1.6 lug depth track, and he had dealer install 144 down the middle only, and he also only still has stock 4" factory carbides still on it,sled now had over 1200 miles on it,stock 8jp belt, stock skis, and carbides, and just studded, and he runs the pee out of it. Don't ask me why he is so lucky, but he is!!

Well...it is officially a done deal. Picked up a 2018 xtx with 4600kms on it. Grey and green. Can't wait to try her out!

Thanks for all the input everyone!

Good deal, congrates for the purchase, just try it the way it came, not just one time, but give it a couple trips out on different types of snow, than decide. So are you guys getting this snow we now have in hammering maine today? Oh ya Happy New Year.

Snowing here now. Great advice on the sled. I am going to follow it and plan to run it stock most of this season stock. I am often too quick to find fault instead of giving a little time to see if we can tune it out and learn a new riding style. A good example is I remember not liking engine breaking now I prefer it.

I was not aware star had a kit for the XTX Sidewinder. I have used there suspension products on my 12 apex XTX and that worked very well, Robert was very sharp on giving me great shock valving on that sled. If i had known i would have choose Star over Hygear.

Agreed. His updates to my nytro were spot on!

I'm 250lbs the sled rides pretty decent in my eyes but i just came off an rx1 sooo... I set the sled up but the air shocks don't have much to give if you're doing trail why not just go with the ltx or 137 xtx. Compared to a friends ltx my sled will tail stand and lift skis much easier, but gear has to do a little with that I assume. In my opinion the floats are great in deep but it puzzles me why they put tuner skis on these sleds but not a trail friendly shock. its like the subpar of both worlds. Wide front end, floats tuner skis and trail seat. lol i wish there was a btx available when i got mine but i still love the sled it just seems like a real 50/50 sled. does off trail 50 percent good and on trail 50 percent good. the carry over from each platform it borrows makes it harder to manage one way or the other really. so whatever you do more of swing towards that way. ie if you 70 percent on trail get the ltx or xtx 137 or just buy the 2020 xtx thats more true a trail and off trail sled.
