Hi I just got my apex seat in and i am only worried about trimming my tank cover. I have done a couple of searches and got mixed info on how much to trim out, also i would like to hear how some of you did your's if there are any tip's.
Thanks

you can start by sliding your seat on and pushing it up tight then take a marker or pencil and trace the seat out on the tank cover.. it should be around 3 and1/2". then i took a piece of old hi-fax and slid it between the tank cover and tank and used a dremel tool to dut the cover. after it is cut slide you seat on and see how it fits. you may have to trim some more here or there.

Make sure that you put masking tape on the cover where you are going to make the cut. The paint will stay on the cover and not peel when you cut it. I made my cut at 3 1/4 but I used a 3 inch cut off wheel and they are about 1/8 inch thick. You want your end cut to be a total of 3 1/2 inches, that was the measurement I got off of a '06 Nytro cover. I removed the cover from the sled when I cut mine. It is more time consuming as you have to remove the handlebars and all cables, but it is cleaner since you dont have all of the grindings of plastic on the sled that way. Some guys were making the cut with snips too.
Here is a link to the thread when I did mine:

you will love this mod! It raises you up and opens the angle of your knee, making for much more enjoyable rides!

Honk is right about that!!!!!! It will feel like a new sled. ;)!

I used a large set of tin snips. They are the older larger ones, cut it like scicors and paper

what ya waitin for on the install? Only takes a short time?

I am holding out just in case we get some more snow and i have my sled apart ! Also i have not made up my mind on the bar and riser setup i am going with to match the seat, I think i am going for 07 apex bars and a 7-8" fly riser as i am 6'3" ???

The seat install only takes an hour or so. You could try the stock 07-09 riser with a Rox on top. 3-1/2 would fit you well.

Well i almost have my seat install finished! The only problem I am dealing with is getting the exhaust covers and taillight surround to fit properly.
Could really use some advice to finish up.

Its all the same? I didn't change anything else. Its all a stock fit. I'm not sure why you are havin probs way in the back end? shouldn't have any, I didn't ?????

It is not going to be a perfect fit, just put everything back together like normal. actually we compared the rx series with the apex seat to an actual apex and the fit is just about the same. the apex will have gaps around the covers and tank, also.

I must have the taillight surround in the wrong spot or the taillight is to tight to the seat, because their is a big gap between the exhaust covers and the taillight surround. Also the end caps are very hard to get bolts started and when i get them and start to tighten the surround or the covers slip out of place.. Very fustrating !!

do you have the hold down bolts on the rear of the seat tightened all the way up? that seat should fit right in there! maybe something is blocking the front of the seat from sliding all of the way forward?
