5 MM spacers in the Transfer Rods

Sasquach,

The thinner shim DOES allow the back of the skid to stay on the ground, which allows better braking and MORE weight to be transferred forward. If the skid lifted, then there is less braking force and LESS weight transfered to the front. The more transfer to the front makes it feel more stable in the front AND rear since the weight of the sled is being shared by the skis and entire skid. I did the mod and I like the way it handles, but you can definately feel more weight transfer to the skis and better bite coming INTO the corner. As soon as you apply power its gone since the weight begins to transfer back again.

The second year I had my 03 RX-1, my dealer gave me a suggested suspension update direct from Yamaha. It included three suggestions. The first was to install the 5 mm spacers on the transfer rods. The second was to adjust the unsprung length (ie front of sled sitting on jack with skies off the ground) of the front shock springs to 260 mm. The third was to install the 75 mm stabilizer links on the front suspension.
I made these three changes and it made a major difference on handling in the corners as well as reducing ski lift.
