I completed the Snowballcancer.org Valentines Day 500 Thursday with Nick Keller from the Keller Family Cancer Foundation. Yep we did 506.1 miles in one day to benefit cancer funding. Attached are some pictures from the day including a picture of the ice build up I got with the Grizztracks tunnel block off plate in my Nytro. It was -26F when we stared out with a high for the day of -1F and we ended the day at -21F. With those temps and all the snow dust we had I would say the Grizztracks plate works! I was able to raise and donate $1,735 for the foundation. I would like to challenge all who read this to go to snowballcancer.org and donate also.

Kudos to you and the rest of your group. Those were some pretty brisk temps that you guys rode in to log 500+ miles in one day. Nick has been doing a fantastic job with his riding cause. It's pretty impressive watching him click off the miles this year closing in on 100,000 miles with his Vector.

What kind of time frame did you guys have that day to put in those miles?

We had no timeframe, we were riding to 500 miles no matter how long it took. With the two breakdowns (Cat and Ski Doo both blew clutches and one motor) and one guy crashing (tree-1; Vector-0; rider was unhurt) we completed the ride in 17 HRS.

Wow, I just completed a 300 km ride today and thought that was a lot. I can't imagine a 500 mile journey.

Well done and congrats.

That's amazing you guys road 500 miles in one day !! And that is awesome that you raised so much money !!:Rockon:

Very good!!

I figured Nick had to have some 500 mile days under his belt. I saw Pat's posted yesterday on FB he has over 95,000 miles on it now. When I was there on the week of Feb. 2nd I took a snap shot of his odometer at 90,000 on the nose sitting at Pat's. I talked with Nick and John Prusak from Snow Goer for awhile and got a photo next to him and the sled. Prusak was doing an article about him for an upcoming magazine.

Great job on the fund raiser..........I miss the 500 mile endurance race they use to have out of Grand Marie every year. You clocked out when you left and had to clock in after running 500 miles, but it had to be done in 24 hrs. or less and that was always fun each year me and a couple of buddies raced in it. Our best time was just over 18 hrs. so your time of 17 hrs. is awesome.......nice job........

With the time it took to get the broken down sleds to the chase trailer or the rider to a location where the truck could pick him up we wasted about 2.5 hrs of riding time. So, all in all we rode for about 14.5 hrs the rest was gas breaks, warm up breaks and taking care of broken down sleds/riders.

That's steady moving and much easier to do with smaller groups that's for sure.......typically the more sleds in your group the greater the odds someone is going to break down or even have an accident.......I miss those 500 mile day's but I'm sure they would be a little harder on me now at 50......lol......I hope the trails were nice for you guys, that too helps a ton.

2 strokes?

Yep two-strokers. One blew the PTO cylinder which locked the motor and drivetrain when it went. The sliding track then backdrove the secondary clutch and wrecked it too (Ski-Doo). The second sled was a two-stroke Cat and the bolt holding the secondary on came all the way out wrecking the threads on the bolt and jack shaft.
There was a "flat-lander" from MN that thought he should show us how to ride fast through what he called a woods trail. It was a county dirt road. He led and about half way down the 15 mile "woods trail" he lost it and sheared off a 5" diameter tree with his Vector. He bailed off before sled hit tree so he was alright but the Vector is now junk.

Amazing run with a very cold day ! ! Cograts to you all for clicking that many miles and fund raising in 17hrs !! you start seeing things at the end of a ride like that ...into the nite ,well at least i did lol ...426.1mi in 13 hrs .

The other guys that broke down should look into owning Yamahas !!

Good job men !;)!

yeah several of the trees look like deer standing alongside the trail freaked me out. Couple of large snow chunks or ice chunks on the trail look like other animals too. Too many hours on the sled equals seeing things that actually aren't there.
