I know my secondary buttons are worn,, but what on the primary and secondary clutches should i check for?
What is the allowable play in the bushings etc?
Thanks

I would change the springs and the bushings in the weights and rollers.
I'm not sure how to check the play in the sliding sheaves. I'd have to dig out my shop manual.

The major issue is looking for heat or stress cracks in the sheave faces. I have burnt through several on my RX's and Apex's. The buttons also can be a source of problems but the rest is pretty bullet proof. Alot has to do with the load of hook up and what kind of riding you do. Many ice launches with 244 picks will stress it harder than over reving in deep stuff.
If your not seeing a change in shift out, belt burn after log full throttle or you are off the magic number (RPM's) at full shift out then look at springs.

What do you guys think of just sending out clutches to get reconditioned? (that means springs, and whatever else is in there that wears) My Attak has 10,700 miles on it and I plan on running it for 2 more seasons. Nothing has ever been done to clutches.
I was thinking of sending them to Ulmer or just taking them to dealer. I know nothing about clutches and just want them to be reliable. No mods have been done.
I've had no problems with them but want to avoid problems in the winter.

Good question
Did alot of searching so far on the secondary over the years, and it seems like some people can easily tell if the bushing is gone, and some sort of description of a degree of looseness on the shaft and excessive heat and wear.
Anyone come across anything else yet, this will be great info for not only welter, but the whole forum

the coating will be worn off if the bushings are worn. cant remember what color they are when new. but you can tell. if you do replace them make sure you green locktite them in and stake them too for reassurance. last year i replaced mine in and the back one in the secondary walked out somehow and ground into the jackshaft bearing destroying the seal.
