Hi fellow TY'ers and happy new year !

Only got nearly 300 km on my RTX due to bad snow conditions.

At first I wasn't that amazed of the looks of this sled, didn't really give me a "wow" feeling when i first saw it on the pictures. But after a while I "accepted" it.
Then seeing it "live" gave me a really clap in the face, what a sled(!).

In the beginning I ordered the blue rtx, but they were already sold out. But there where a few white/yellow RTX left at the norwegian yamaha importer, had them send the create directly to where i work, a workshop where we wrench on cars, varnishing(?) or painting if you prefer that) and repairs of damaged cars(Chassis, doors, and so on).
So I had to un-create it and mount it myself, the mounting didn't take long. Kind of funny job, you could study the sled a bit more before riding it :)

Kind of glad I decided to take one of them since it's quite special to see a white / yellow yamaha around here.

Just loving the Nytro more and more as the days passes by !

Still a few details I would change when the time comes tho.

Suspension:

The suspension seems to work very well for my type of riding. (The tracks here is in very bad condition, when it is in the worst season (as it is most of the time) the bumps are over 30" from top to bottom and the bumps is all the way from where you park your car to the "wood-border" (Don't know what its called in us, but I hope you understand some of my annoying words).

Haven't done any adjustments in the front or in the rear other than 75 psi in the floats, seems like I have to do something to the heavy steering and inside ski lift.
Not that it bothers me that much, but I know it will get better if I take the time to do some adjustments. Well, with the snow conditions here now there ain't much motivation or possibility to do that work now.

Anyone tried their RTX without the sway-bar? I'am imaging myself the floats will do a great job even without it.

Drivers position and comforts:

The sleds I have to compare with is; 03 Rx1 mtn, 01 SX700r 136", 07 F8 and 05 Mach Z 1000 136" 1.75" and IMO yamaha has hit the nail on the head with this sled. Really easy from sitting to - standing.
Easy to move your body from side to side, I think the wide running boards (which i love!) has to take the most credit for that. Since the snow conditions here change really often
I wonder how this sled will do in the powder. Will the wide runningboards be a problem in powder? Of course this sled isn't designed for it, but....
The right footwell is a really pain in the a.... when driving in powder, has to stop every 10.min to knock the ice out, well, the entire running board is filled with ice.
On the left side its only accumulating slush, haven't noticed the "Left-side-wet-shoe-syndrome" yet.

Handlebar riser could have been 1,5" - 2 " higher for my sake. Other than that; Handwarmers works great!
Added a mtn.bar, which I've always been using alot when riding off trail and in tricky places.

Handguars do help alot when doing long trips in the mountain when the temp is between - 15 C and - 30 C. Unfortunately I was able to break both my handguards mountings just like "08NitroRTX" here did. Seems to be weak in the "threaded" area so watch out.

The low silver windshield is IMO the best looking one, but certainly not very useful. For short trips in the fields its great, but just like the handguards it supposed to do some work in the cold weather (and direct wind away of course). - Recommend to change to a high - or a mid if you
will be riding in cold environments.

And like everyone says; this sled needs alot of body input when riding to get the most out of it.

Engine

TOTAL SCORE ! Very strong and quick engine that pulls all the way. My buddy where riding the proto-types last winter and he did hit a little over 160 km/h on the speedo, If thats true its more than enough for me.
The speed limit is 70 km/h here, and due to the bad track conditions in the woods you can't even get close to that without writing your testament and order a chest for your and your nytros funeral. In the mountains there is no problem crusing around in 100 km/h +.

No starting problems and no oil/coolant consumption so far. Haven't checked the motor for any oil leaks yet, but I will do a full scan of the sled at the first oil change.

Have experienced a small bog tho when going from zero to WOT just like explained by others on this site. Will for sure keep an eye on this.
Will be ordering a wideband and a fuelaccelerator soon to do some tuning.

Some of you have been talking about the clutch noise, mine have it too. Been like this from 03 when the 4-stroke first was introdused i think, the old rx1 mtn had that noise too.
Just leave it like it is, or add some noisy exhaust if it bothers you :)

Have only been testing the RTX against a few sleds so far;
- 01 SX700R 136"/1.25" ripsaw. Removed 2 layers from the headgasket, reed notch, team roller secondary, stock weights w/4.5g rivet in 1st hole and 3.1g in tip, 2-3 engagement shims, 14.5 mm rollers, stock springs, 22/40 gearing. Jetting: 142.5 mains.

They where pretty equal the first 10 meters, but then the RTX "exploded" and got quite a few sled lenghts before the race was over.

- 05 Mach Z 1000 136"/1.75" brp track(unknown name) with some gearing work done in the chaincase; other than that bone-stock.

The RTX just kept it for about 4-5 meters before the Z was gone! Didn't have a chance. But I guess a new track would do a night and day difference for the nytro. Well have to re-test soon :)

My friend has been racing a 06 600SDI 1.5" and they where pretty equal through the whole race.

Well, seems like we have some work to do here. Hehe.

Skis, track and drivers

Track has to be replaced with a better one, the new track 1.75" cross-track from camoplast is my choise for this sled.
I either has to run the track terribly tight or I have to live with the ratching which is really annoying, so no-slips is a must. - Recommended. I'am going with the BRP 9t no-slips since they are quite cheap around here compared to others.

The stock skis didn't do very well in powder and maybe new skis will help on the heavy steering, well, time will show. Never been a big fan of the stock yamaha skis anyway. But like mentioned on this side the rubber stop block could be turned around to get rid of the darting, did this to mine when I was mounting the sled a few of weeks ago. Works awsome.

Exhaust

I like the stock sound as it is. Not too loud. Since I will boost this sled later in the winter/next season I'm going to leave it stock for now. Good place to do some weight saving tho.

Headlight

My friend added bi-xenon to his RTX which turned out to work really good. Will soon be adding on mine. For you who is thinking of making this change: do it !
Plenty of room for the ballasts, type: H4 Bi-xenon and great light over stock.

This is where he mounted the ballasts, not sure they would mess up the air circulation...?

Chassis/body

This really need a Ultraplate/Skinz floatplate, it's like a plough in the powder + the belly and the engine compartment is very exposed to damages from hard snow, stubs, stones and ice.
I also noticed snow in both side panels, especially on the right side. This could be fixed with some filters, while doing this mod you could also let air into the clutches by making a air-intake on the left side panel.

I won't even mention the plast-clips ...... !

Some last thoughts about the nytro!

- Heavy in the front (?) Not, a issue. Feels extremly light until you get stuck :)

- Some slack in the upper front - a-arms. : I found this slack today when I was at work, I was meausering the driveaxle to find out which no-slips to add. My buddy tipped the sled over on
its side while I was meausering the axle. then he moved the spindle as shown in the picture . You could see a big slack on the upper a-arm bushings. Did this to my own(nearly 300km's) when i got home and found exact
the same slack. Is this normal? The first sled is brand new, never seen snow.

- Small fueltank(?)

- No place to store things. But will easily be fixed with a tank-bag, etc.

- My buddy had a very terrible noise from his chaincase. Drained the oil of the chaincase and found lots of magnesium chips in it. Disassembled the chaincase and found out that the chain
had been eating of a small magnesium fin inside the chaincase, which resultet in damaged bearings, chain, o-rings and oil seals. Every part will be replaced with new ones soon. I don't know for sure what
happend, but I will let you know when he figure it out.

- My buddy had a incident when doing a little jumping in the field. He hit a small grassbump with the left footwell when landing, that caused this ;
Haven't seen the result of the repair, but by welding the alu and bending it he was able to get it pretty like stock he told me. This bump was very small so I'am very suprised how this could have happend, well. Done is Done.

He also painted the shroud and the panel over the fueltank with some camelon-paint. Looks awsome in daylight.

Other than mentioned I will leave it stock because of bigger plans when and IF boosting it, depends on what yamaha release this winter for next year.

By the way; took a nytro mtx with mc-express turbo installed (around 240 hp at the moment, should be about 270+ when finished) for a ride not long ago, all I can say is WOW!

Those machines really pulls hard stock, but when boosted it was amazing.

Wellwell, these are my thoughts and experiences with the 2008 FX Nytro RTX.

Just praying for snow now....

well posted, I for one say THANK YOU for the great write up! We need people writing up honest write ups and their good and bad experiences, ride on!

Thanks for reading my write up, great to know it wasn't all a waste!

Kråkan: Hehe, very happy to hear that! :tg: How's the snow conditions "hos söta bror"(This is an expression we use about sweeden)? This December has been the warmest in quite a few years here!

Unluckydiablo Thank you for reading. I agree, write on people!

AKrider Thank you for enjoying the pictures. Will for sure be adding more pictures here through the winter.

08NitroRTX Thanks! Hehe, yeah. I can tell you; even 240hp was fun. Looking forward to test the mtx after the break in.
