For the 2006 model year you could have bought a:
900 Fusion for $9599 MSRP (reverse ?)
SD 800 gade for $9299 MSRP (reverse ?)
SD MXZ X 800 for $9949 MSRP (reverse ?)
SD MachZ Adrenaline for $10899 (reverse ?)
AC F7 EFI R for $8699
AC ZR9 EFI for $9599 (reverse ?)
AC ZR9 EFI SP for $10099 (reverse ?)
OR
Apex ER for $9999 MSRP
Apex RTX $10499
Apex GT $10899
Apex prices aren't that far off. COMPARING TO 2 STROKES . Sure you can buy an AC for much less than list but the demand for each sled largely determines how much of a discount you can get. SkiDoo sure does have a lot of options tho!
Only way I could be happier with my sled choice was if I was apollokid who paid under $7k for an RTX and accessories end of season.

It would seem to me that it costs at least $1500 more to build a 5 valve per cylinder, 4 cylinder 4 stroke vs. a two cylinder 2 stroke.
I dont know how Yamaha keeps the prices as low as they do for what they give us.

Not to mention all the extra costs with the use of titaniaum and stainless steel

where i bought mine, the dealer was snow checking the rtx for $8,700. I paid 8400 w/o rev. I think the gt was 9,100.
those prices make the choice of brand about even, making the decision easy! I stay on a Yamaha!

The price/comparison is what got me onto a Yamaha. I was looking at the end of the season for the "end of the season" left over deal and came across a dealership that had a leftover 2006 F7 sno-pro(no reverse of course) for $7399. They also had a 2006 F7 R for about the same price. Thinking at the time I would get a new F7 for me and give the wife my 2005 F7 R to ride next season. Well, I will tell you what...after getting my first "up close" look at the Apex...my mind changed quickly...its just so much more sled! But...I was expecting the salesman to give me a price in the $9000 or $10000 range. When he said that this Apex was his last one and he has to clear all the sleds out to make room for bikes, 4-wheelers, etc, he gave me an out the door price of $8,049. I immediatly thought...for roughly $600 more...I could have Apex(4stroke, sled of the year, no more oil, better gas mileage, fast, dependable, fit and finish, elec start/reverse, etc, etc, etc..) rather than the F7.
I put a deposit on it...told him I need a night to sleep on it...called my local dealership out of respect to see if they would match or come close their price but they didnt have any Apex's left anyways...called another dealership and they were at $8600 for the same sled.
Well anyways, that is what got me over to Yamaha.

My take:
Being a 30 year poo guy, I was about to snow check 2 fst's, but weight, mag. tests, etc. made me uncomfortable. They were approx. $600 x 2 =$1200 more than 2 Rages. One of the GOOD dealers tryed to talk me into 600's - Fusion M-10's, but electric start was in doubt. They were about $400 x 2 =$800 less.
Anyway ended up with 2 Rages [ first time with Yamaha ] . No snow at home so took 4 away trips, 1600 + miles absolutely trouble free = PRICELESS.

GOOD POST, very constructive and objective ! I agree that for the money the two strokes in comparison should be atleast a thousand if not 1500 dollars cheaper than the equivalent 4-stroke machine.
This just means they are making more profit from there loyal buyers. My concern is that Yamaha is making money at what expense ?......... I hope they don't cut corners in other area's to make up the difference for a more expensive engine, like wheels, suspensions etc., and if they do, that's fine as long as they own up to the warranty issue's and take care of there customers.
When I snow checked my 07' Apex Mnt. Se
price: $11,250.00 out the door, with reverse & 400.00 accesory cash . i.e. skid plate, hand guards and a cover all installed . I thought man that's alot of cash , time you add an exhaust , clutching, few other goodies I'm at 13,500,
WELL I then called some Skidoo dealers for a quote of an equivalent machine: Skidoo Summit 1000 with 162x16 track $12,000.00 , I laughed at the guy.....told him he's got to be kidding, He got a little offended.
Next was Arctic Cat M1000 sno pro 162 : I couldn't get a solid number, he said between 10800.00 and 11300.00...... I laughed at him too, he asked me what I could get cheaper in the same ball park. This is when it got fun, I said an Apex, "naturally" and went on to fill his ear with pro's verse's cons to his sled and finally he said well I don't have time for this...... LMAO.
My point is how can they be charging more than what we pay for a Yamaha Mnt. sled when they have to have half the engineering money spent on these machines ? It's a joke, because they are a little bit lighter, they better be considering the weight of both engines in comparison. That's also a joke, (the weight) when I asked the "real" weight of the Summit 1000 162 he finally coughed up around 575 dry , which I still don't believe...sounded pretty embarrassed when I told him the weight of the Apex .....LOL. Anyway that's my comparison experience.
