Has anyone put an analog tach on their nytro? I think this would be cheaper than trying to find a vector gauge for it. I would think that you could hook into the wire in the harness that goes to that pathetic thing the call a gauge.

I bet guys in the boost section might know this answer

Well, no response in the boosted section, and no one knows in this section either. Huh...

I looked into this before I ended up putting the EFI vector gauge on a 09 XTX. There are some nice data-loggers out there that have larger digital tach displays and I believe Koso makes an analog tach. However if I remember correctly, the Koso tach was geared more towards motorcycle use and not designed for cold wet weather.

The other issue is that there is not a dedicated RPM signal going to the gauge on Yamaha EFI sleds. Its all done through a single wire communication wire. Basically the gauge and ECU are two computers talking to each other over a single wire, relaying information such as RPM, speedo, engine temp, fuel level, etc.

In the end I just ended up going with the EFI Vector gauge and it worked out great! All of the functions worked including diagnostics (pulling codes). The tach is nice and big, with needle pointing just a hair to the right from straight up for the power band, so it makes it really easy to see where your at when clutch tuning. ;)!

I would like a vector gauge, but those are $$ and hard to find used. That's why I was hoping to just add an analog tach. I guess I will keep squinting to see those stupid little 1/4" tall numbers on the stock display.

I agree, putting the gauge on my Nytro was one of the best mods I have done.

I would call around some of your local dealers and see if they have any kicking around. Its worth the cash!

I think its impossible to do a "analog" tach, or any other type of tach for the matter. Since the sled uses coil on plug, there is no coil or distributor to get the signal from. Maybe something could hook to the crank or cam angle sensor (if the motor even has those) and write some code and do one that way, but i think you can see how involved that will be!
