I am seriously considering buying an Apex ER and with the current exchange rates, I will probably buy one in the US. I was in Michigan this weekend on business and I stopped into 1 Yamaha dealer and the salesman said that they wouldnt sell me a sled unless I had a US address.
I am not asking for anyone to post where they bought theirs, but if anyone who bought one in the US would PM or email me where they bought it, I would appreciate it. Closer to Buffalo or Port Huron the better as they are the closest border crossings.
Thanks

UPS will give you an american address. They will even accept mail and packages to that address, and then forward on to you in Canada.

You should be able to get one around 8500.00U.S. Let's do the math here 8500 * 1.20 * 1.15 + 189.00 = 11919 Compared to 12500 * 1.15 + 30.00 admin fee = 14405. Diff of 2486.00 you save. That's a round about figure.

My local dealer wouldnt give me the time of day when I went in the first time and then he quoted me $12900 + tax for an ER. My next closest dealer is almost 2hrs away. I can be in Buffalo in 2.5hrs if I have a collosal failure that requires major work.
$8500 US = $10200 CDN. For $1800 CDN, I will take my chances on the warranty issues. Sorry, Yamaha Canada, you dropped the ball big time on this one.

In a short matter of time it will not be an option for a U.S. dealer to sell to a Canadian resident who does not have an American address. Sell cross border and risk the cancellation of your dealership. Yamaha USA will be following the restrictions carried on by their competitors in AC/BRP and Polaris. Watch. So for all those that purchased across border already you benefited from buying early...but all is about to change.

Yamaha4Lyfe, I would almost swear that you work for Yamaha Canada with a reponse like that.
No matter what restrictions Yamaha USA places on their dealers, someone will sell a sled to a Canadian or vice versa if the exchange rates shift back to pre-2003 levels.
The solution to this problem is VERY simple. Price the goods at a reasonable exchange rate and you wouldnt be in this predicament. Even if you used a 1.25 exchange most people wouldnt bother if they were only going to save a few hundred bucks.
Harley Davidson Canada is well aware of this situation and has lowered the price on their bikes by several thousands of dollars since 03 to compensate for the strong CDN $. Why cant Yamaha or any of the other sled makers do the same?

Reguardless of saving money and exchange rates, Yamaha sets regulations on selling "cross border" and if someone does it, then they chance loosing their dealership. I do agree that some dealers do it, but that is their chance to take. It doesn't make it right either way. I would love to save money also, but is it worth making a dealer loose the right to sell Yamaha? That is your decision...

I do not work for Yamaha Canada...im just stating what i know. Im not saying YOU cant go and buy one. By all means go for it. Im simply stating that there will be NO price change on either side of the border as both Yamaha USA and Canada are competitive in their pricing in their own markets. Therefore they cant UP the american price or lower the Canadian price. So whats the alternative? They put restrictions on their dealers cross border selling. This is nothing new. Look at the other major three and their retrictions in regards to cross border selling...Also this "cross border" shopping has NOTHING to do with the exchange rate right now...for the most part. It has to do with how yamaha usa and yamaha canada prices their sleds for their dealers. Just for your info

Scott very easy check classifieds in this site for people selling their spring order sleds. Nobody can stop you from buying a previously owned sled and the Canadian dealer will have to honor the warranty.
