Anyone try the Ski Wheelz?

Not if you are a LazyBastard.

That being said I talked to a guy with one of those 3 ton Bearcats the other day who has them installed and he loves his.

Changing the carbides once a year works for me.

I have thought about these wheels many times, and like you I come back to that same thought. I know there are some that operate remotely with electric motors, but come on, that's even worse!!

There are a couple of trails that we ride frequently in Quebec that have you riding on a plowed road for 1 - 2 miles. They usually leave a little ice and snow on it for sleds, but still it bugs me.

I had seen a set of wheels a couple of years ago that stay in place and act like a carbide on a trail, but roll on pavement. This seems a bit more feasible.

I couldn't see doing it for road crossings, but for gas stations and parking lots that are plowed bare-or late season riding where the snowmobile route is actually the side of the road.

The auto-retract feature is a nice touch. Now if only about half the price.

A freind that we ride with has these, what a hassel. We are always waiting for him after we have crossed a road, or a parking lot. I have purchased good ware rods when my sled was new in 03 and have over 8000 miles and I've not changed them yet. I don't see an advandage other than adding weight and spending money.

I had the RETRAX wheels a couple of years ago but found them good only on bare pavement. If I was in a parking lot that had a mixture of bare pavement and snow/ice, I didn't have enough control for safe operation - especially around cars!
Like I said, they were very good on bare pavement but I sent them back to RETRAX with a suggestion that they add a metal piece that would go aound them (like a piston ring) that would aid in giving"bite" when turning on snow/ice.

Not worth the money in my experience.
P.S I use Bergstrom Triple Point carbides that give very good steering on pavement and have about 4000mi on them and are still good. Highly Recommended!

I have a friend with an 05 RX-1 and he took his off (they came on the sled when he bought it) because all they did was throw snow in his face and he believes it added to hyfax wear because the snow was going over the hood not under it. :4STroke:
