I just bought a floatation skid plate for my 08 GT. I started to mount it this morning and noticed that it will restrict the vertical travel of the A-arms. I'm not too crazy about this. It contacts the A-arm at the rest position so as soon as the front of the sled comes up at all the plate will be restricting the vertical travel. I could cut it to make it fit I guess, but I might as well sell it and get a regular plate. What do you guys think?

Its going to be pretty hard to make this sled float thru powder no matter what you put under it. Its heavy and it has a high attack angle between the drive axle and the lower rails. I would just put a regular skid plate on and run it on the trails.

skid plate

i tried installing one on my sled and the holes did not line up in very good spots. they were no weres near were i could get the rivnuts installed. so i returned it to the dealer.
holes are not in the same place as the smaller skid plate which installs in place of 4 existing rivits.

I had one on my sled last year..

Snow and ice builds up between the plate and the bottom of the sled.. causing it to break and pull the bolts threw and it ended up coming loose..

I removed it.. It just wont work..

Just installed, but your right, doesn't line up in the right areas and the aluminum is too thin to use the rivet nuts provided in the kit. I drilled carefully in the correct areas and installed stainless steel screws from the inside out using screw/nut and then finishing off with a large washer and bullet nut on the outside and bottom of skid. Now I am concerned about the snow buildup breaking it as discussed above??????

I spent a few hours in the garage on this today and I am going to see if my dealer will take it back. I see what you mean Welter. There is a rather large space between the plate and the sled when it is in place. Some of the holes are in bad spots as mentioned by Zeke. I could make it work if I had too. I screwed up by buying this. I wanted a little more protection than the ultra plate gives you so I thought this was the answer. If my dealer won;t take it back I'll try to sell it on ebay or something. Thanks guys.

Put mine in last month, no problems other than the holes in bad spots, so I used the existing riv-nut holes from my ultra plate and drilled new ones in proper locations. As far as restricing travel I see your point, but most of my riding is trails and trail busting so no hard jumping here, we shall see, if we ever get any snow this "El Nino" year!

So far no problems both on and off trail riding! Also, no big deal to remove when changing the oil.
