Maybe your chain tensioner loosened too much and slipped off?

Lot's of info here on pulling the chain case. Not hard. You'll need some tips and lot's of info. You didn't post your miles. This always plays into what could be the issue on these machines. Drive shafts are common in a way on 9000 plus... bearing could of went as well.
Good luck...

Prolly the chain. If you buy one find a team chain, they are borg-warner just like stock for about half the price.

If the drive shaft broke up close to the chain case like they usually do, the secondary will spin freely. As you turn it you are spinning the chain, gears, etc. If you have a spare set of eyes to look under the sled, you will see the broken stub spinning where it exits the chain case.
