All, My sled handles like crap after Added 6 inch shaper bars. Too much ski pressure. Here are my current settings: My front springs are set to min pre load, Limiter strap shows two holes? weight transfer at min. Rear shock is at factory middle. I can't find standard strap settings in my manual. I know guys say to let strap out 1 hole...... I can see two holes, so am I out already or do I need to see three holes? I have never had this much ski lift and hard turning on either my 03 RX1 of my 05 warrior. 500 miles this weekend and my arms and shoulders are done!

Can you be more specific about handling,is it darting, pitching, donkey kicking you, pounding you thru the bars, what?? I will tell you i will never use shaper bars again,i have used them on three differant machines, and all of them darted bad,ya they grab hard, but dart like crazy, and this is not just on yammi ski,on my xp doo, they did,and on my fst poo, same thing.

For your strap there should be 4 holes, the factory setting is the second one from the top, i don't think you can go to the top hole because the strap won't fit around the tube,(i could be wrong),

Your best bet would be to put it on the second hole from the top (make the strap as long as possible will take the weight off the skis),

Fabio,
I can see two sets of holes so I must be in the 3rd? 1 more set left? I wonder if the long track is different, I was melting the snow in the skid yesterday should be good today to check it out. I set the weight tranfer to mid position vice min.
Thanks for responding

I have a 09 LTX, my limiter strap is at the 2nd from top,2 holes showing. I have transfer rod set at max. I will be pulling my limiter starp down 1 notch again 2morow. I would reccomend trying those settings. Pulling it down 1 hole will make a big difference. In my opinion you want the transfwer rod set at max, unless you are not worried about getting the power to your track. I know exactly what you are talking about with the tired arms. I have tried so many different skis, simmons, stocks with bergstroms and now pilots. I like the pilots the best but I need more transfer to the front skis. I pulled the limiter strap down 1 notch from stock setting and it felt like I was pushing the skis through the snow. But it did allow me to steer a lot better. I went back to factory this weekend and that it way to much ski lift for me. I will be going back down 1 notch,I think I just need some time to get used to it.
I am 100% positive that the 121" tracks are so much easier to turn and will make your arms a lot less tired and sore. My buddies both have them and I have been chasing things on my sled to get it to handle the corners like theres, but this weekend I finally realized there is nothing more I can do aside from shortening my track. The 15" more of track we have just makes it harder to whip it around the corners. Maybe someone else has a magical fix,but I have tried everything now, from adjustments to skis and carbides.

Thanks Ace, I found that my transfer was on min and have changed it to middle. Won't pulling the strap down 1 hole give you more ski pressure? I figured I would try the opposite and let out 1 if possible. my warrior handle much better and was also an long track but was set up good when I bought it. My 03 RX1 was a shorty and took me a couple of seasons but finally got that won to handle good. I don't have a place to test here were I live so makes it hard also. Maybe I have to much carbide( 6 in Shaper bars) She handled much better with worn out factory bars? I know that pilots are a much less aggressive ski and run flatter on the trail than the stock single deep ski. There has to be a better solution I was flat out embarrassed and wore out buy the way I had to corner last weekend!
Thanks

Yeah, pulling down will give you more ski pressure. I thought that's what yyou wanted? I run 8" in the middle and 6" on the outside. After thinking about it last night I am going to try setting transfer rod in the middle instead of max, before I commit to getting used to limiter strap down 1 hole. Do you have no snow? Or just no good corners to test? I think the best thing to do is go out on trail fadnd maoe adjustments, but its been so damn cold and there is so much snow my skid is always filled with snow so its hard on trail. Just the smallest adjustments makes a huge difference I have found. When my buddies and I switch sled, its unbelievable how easy it is to whip there 121" throufh the corners. After getting used to the 136" the 121" is like a cake walk through corners. I wish I could get mine like that. Gonna try a few things on trail this weekend, not supposed to be thar cold so hopefully snow wont be frozen all in my skid, and I can work on it on trail. I will let you know if I make any progress.

Ace, I just moved to Mass from Maine. sled not registered here but small little trails. I hope to get back to Maine in a couple weeks so I would like to be closer on set up. Was 20 below last weekend when riding so didn't try anything but clicker adjustments. I am sure I have too much ski pressure now. thats why the front Darts, severe ski lift( when I can get it to turn) I turned buy using the brake to slide rear around or sitting as far back as i could seemed to be somewhat better. The sled bites to hard in almost every corner except an uphill corner. And the handling was horrific the slower you goat Higher speeds it was a tough ride!

You are on the right track. Let it out one set of holes to make the strap longer. From here I would only change one thing at a time, whether it be limiter strap or transfer.

Thanks Gotta_B_blue
Well I went under the skid this morning to loosen the strap and found I was already in the last hole with 3 open holes showing. I have adjusted the weight transfer to Middle from MIN so I will start there for now. I have a half used set of dooly,s I will take with me on my next trip to try in case? I will also try shimming with a couple differant size shims.
Thanks Blue

All I did was go up one hole from factory, left the transfer rod where it was and take almost all the preload off of the front springs. With the addition of stud boy 6" dualies (I dont have studs), my sled handles exactly as I want and it is very predictable.

I did these changes after my first ride, and it changed how my sled handles 100% for the better.

That is all I needed to do to get where I wanted it to be, YMMV though.

Hey blue,
Sorry mis read your post thought you didn't have enough ski pressure. Why don't you try going to stock setting on limiter strap and try adjusting transfer rod to get what you want. Its easier on trail to do that, and a small change makes a big difference. Gotta b blue is right also make one change at a time and take for a ride, small changes equal big results on these skids. Sorry I miss reD your post. You moved from maine? Oh man, just got back from moosehead they had 5ft of znow and another foot while we were up there. I moved from mass. To n.h. and eventually I will make it to maine, beautiful up there.

Thanks to all for the help. Here is were I am at for now until trail test;
Before:
stock factory worn out carbides
Preload backed off front skis,
limiter strap set with 3 holes showing
transfer set at Min.

Added: 6 in shaper bars for carbides
Rode about 700 miles, handling terriable, Darting, ski lift, hard to turn pore traction. I feel too much front end pressure

Changed weight transfer to middle setting.

Testing will be in a couple weeks, Have an set used of Dooleys to take on next trip( Half worn) and will make adjustments to weight transfer as needed
That is my plan for now,
What do you think?
