I have a newly acquired 2011 Apex SE, and the other morning it was left outside, got down to -5F and upon attempting to start it in the morning, I just got a click. Thinking the battery was low, attempted to use a jump-pack but got the same clicking noise, and wouldn't engage the starter. Pulled her into the garage, and came back later to look into it, and it started right up like there was no issues ever. Garage has some heat in it. Is that the symptoms for the bad "Fuel Relay" freezing that has been discussed about on this forum? Couldn't determine if they were turning over BUT there just wasn't any fuel coming on to catch. I guess the updated relay, for the left foot well is the 8GN-81950-00. My 2013 Apex XTX has not experienced this.....
Please advise.
Thanks in advance,
Rick

I'd change it anyways (it's only $15) and see if it happens again, otherwise it might be your battery

Assuming that it's the relay, as the jump-pack did not help, but all lights came on, on the dash, and didn't dim or fluctuate when attempting to start. Didn't know if the "fuel relay" not fully engaging, stopped the starter from engaging.

When I had my start relay "freeze up" on my RX-1 the sled wouldn't do anything. No crank, no click, nothing. I removed the relay (warmed it up) and put it back in. The sled started fine.
I am unsure the different symptoms between the fuel relay and starter relay in a no start situation. I replaced the starter relay and got the updated solid state fuel relay on my Apex right after I bought it. No problems yet but it hasn't been that cold.

If it does not crank or even click I would say it was the starter solenoid. Fuel relay would not stop it from cranking.
Check the connection on the solenoid. I know the 10 and older had issues with this connection.

If the click is coming from the battery area it is most likely the starter relay . Spent Saturday morning changing mine. 70 dollars Canadian . Do the fuel relay while you are at it and keep the spare in your jacket , it was about 16 Canadian. Very common problem. And frustrating.

To start turn key to position 1. You should hear the fuel pump cycle...if it is super cold, it may not...this is frozen fuel pump relay...the one by your left foot...I kep a warm spare in my pocket always.
Then turn key to position 2 to engage the starter. You should hear the starter. if you only hear a click, that is frozen starter relay.... on the bracket beside the battery.... get a new one...

OK, thanks for the replies. I will go through and check all the connections by the battery. On my '13 I had already cleaned them up and put some di-electric grease on everything since new, and it's been trouble free for me. Just was unsure if the "Fuel Relay" was bad or not working correctly, if it cut the pulse/electricity to the starter, causing the clicking. I actually wasn't concentrating on where the clicking was coming from, just remembered reading about the cold-start issues in this forum.

fuel relay has nothing to do with the sled cranking it is for the fuel pump. if it clicks and dont crank most likely starter relay jump the leads if engine cranks replace relay if still no crank replace starter.
