Im thinking about selling my rx1 and buying an apex. How much better is the apex then the rx1? is it worth it?

I owned both - and to me it was worth the upgrade to the Apex.

Is your rx1 stock? The reason I ask is your decision may depend on what you have done to your RX1. You can do your own rider forward bars, track and rear suspension and only be missing out on the EFI. Check out the "Katchess" RX1s on this forum - those sleds rock. But you can also do some great things to an Apex - and I really did like the EFI.

Yea it is stock. Ive had a look at kachess thread and it makes me want to keep my rx1, but im just wondering if those mods would make it preform similar to an apex. Cause if so then it would be much cheaper to keep the rx1. And i havent had really any troubles with the carbs so efi isnt a huge deal

The biggest issues I saw with my 2003 RX1M was the stock skid/track and the stock front skis.

What year is your RX1M? Do you have the newer skid (2005 I think?) and wider skis that yamaha put on them?

A 159 or 162" track would do wonders, that would have been next if I had kept the RX1 - the MPI transfer kit helped out a bunch on the older (2003-2004) skid, but I also had to press on extrovert drivers when making that mod.

Edit - the moderators will ask you to add your location to your profile, I might as well tell you that before they do :)

It is an 03. I guess i should edit that and say it is mostly stock. It does have extrovert drivers a big wheel kit, and simmions flex skis. I hate the flex skis and will definatly be switching those soon if i keep it.

What is the difference between the 03 and 05 skid ?

And thanks ill add my location.

The 03 skid has the horizontally mounted coilover rear shock and the transfer rods - the 05s and newer have the torsion spring "pro-mountain" skid that performs better off trail (both are heavy). If you have a limiter strap on the rear of the skid you already have the transfer kit - if the rods are still there then it is stock.

05 has the Mono skid, better than the pro action, but still lacking. IF you get a 136 you can make that handle quite well for what it is, Or look to swap it out with another manufacture's skid. Depends on where you ride and some mods you plan to do. Apex is fuel injected which is quite nice.

This is the mtn forum your in.There is no mono skids in the mtn sleds.

Since you have the rx1 and some add ons.I would do the Kachess treatment and find a diffrent skid.
The apex is a lot better then the rx1 but still sucks stock. So either way you have to stick money or do mods to get them to perform awesome.

My lightweight RX 1 did outperform the stock Apex with ease.

A different rear skid is a must and clutching - jetting and carb spring mods. Keep the air-box stock with a lightweight exhaust .

If you have the rider forward installed handling is Identical to the Apex

That said after doing the same to the Apex and shedding close to 100 pounds it does a bit better than the RX. EFI is nice for consistent performance at altitude.

Is it worth thousands of dollars ????????

Yes this is the Mountain forum, And yes the Mono was only in the shortie.
The stock MTN skids are heavy, and limited. Like in the Kachess Thread there is alot to be gained by swapping out the skid, You can get the RX motor to perform like the Apex motor, Except the fuel injection part.
