Awhile back I read a thread about people blowing the 3 amp fuse when using the Yami adapter to run their heated helmet shield. I have one and it has been working fine. In order to prevent any mishaps I was wanting to hard wire the shield directly to the battery like someone had recommended in the aforementioned thread. I was wondering if I do this where should I ground the wire to.

Thanks,

PH

Just connect to the red & black "jumper leads" with a fuse in the new heated shield line on the positive side.

On the delta chassis frame by the jumpers, there are a couple self-tapping screws into the frame. These are good places to pick up a ground without kluging up your Negative jumper. If your sled does not have them already, put in one. This gives you a ground close to the Positive Jumper, if that is where you are going to tap the positive source.

Ideally, the Fuse on the Positive connection needs to be as close to the source as possible. Battery is the preferred source. Jumper also works just fine.

When I added an optimate battery charger lead to the battery, I soldered a heated shield extension on it. I ran the plug for the optimate chager out the vent in the side panel and the visor plug out to the handlebar.

The charger lead is fused, so I don't have to worry about burning up the harness. It will be hard to repace the fuse if it blows; however, no problems in 4500 miles.

I have a scorpion exo400 helmet and shield and it is REALLY nice to have the green LED on the shield to verify it has power. I used my helment to verify a buddy had power to his shield when he was having problems. Turns out his cig outlet plug was loose and he wasn't getting power to his shield. Jiggled the plug and we finished our ride!

For some reason, when I picked up my sled new, the dealer said "Don't connect anything to the jumper leads".
I didn't ask for more details.. Maybe he assumed I was going to connect an un-fused wire harness there. don't know..

Maybe cuz the cables are not fused and some morley might hook up there without a fuse and have a melt down?
