Hello everyone,
I am new to the board and have had enough of Polaris. I am in the process of throwing their 06 FST Switchback back at them: 5 trips to the dealer, 12 weeks in repairs since March 06, less than 100 miles on it.......Sooo...I really like the looks of the Yamaha 4 strokes. I am an old Yamaha motocross bike rider and have two our their ATVs. I'm not really that brand loyal, just want what I pay for.
I do a lot of deep powder around here and some trails, all un-groomed. There is a dealer here who is asking for offers on out of the crate 2007 Attak GTs, and I am seriously considering replacing my Polaris POS with a Attak GT..- any opinions on this sled? What would you upgrade on an out of the crate Attak GT?
I like the slightly longer track at 136", not too short for some powder, especially with 150 hp, not too long for trail banging.
I'd appreciate any feedback you might have on this sled.

Welcome!
The Attak GT is the best sled I've had so far. It's a great sled, and I can myself having it for 5 years or more - so can my wife.
I used to be a Polaris faithful. Loved the power of the 700 liberty with VES. LOVE the power of the big 4's much more. Gas and go brother.

The switchback when running is reported as the best crossover sled, the Attak is not a true crossover sled if you do a lot of offtrail riding in the deep stuff it has a tendency to trench with the stock track and suspension. but a great trail sled.

A stock Attak is not your sled for "a lot of deep powder riding" Tal
Probably not what you expected to hear, but a nice thing about this site is that few will lead you astray.

I have ridden all the cross over sleds. Attak hands down winner on trails & medium deep snow. as soon as snow gets over 2' deep you got a handfull & will be doing a lot of "track poaching" in the real deep pow!

The slydog powder pros do help quite a bit in the deep stuff.

Anybody try upping the ante in the powder with a 1.25" Predator?
Thanks a lot for your replies. I appreciate the feedback, it is very helpful. This seems llike a great board.
So, it sounds like the attak will do well except in the really deep stuff.
Anybody ever add on wheels and extend the track on the attak?
It just seems like going all out for the new Yamaha 162" moutain sled would be too much for any sort of riding besides mountain climbing and deep powder. Anybody have any other model recommendations for the type of riding I do?
Thanks again for the replies!

I absolutly love my Attak GT. I see myself on this sled for several years to come...(made the jump from Doo).
I mostly ride trails. You can see a list of my mods in my signature. I really like the Powder hound's.
Stock skis do not provide enough float and track trenches. Some guys here have swapped out the track for a deeper lug paddle.
There was a poll a while back, (I think done by an advertiser here) who was considering designing rails or extensions that would create a 144" "Turned up" rail like Poo has. Sounds like this would be right up your alley!
Welcome to TY!
A company callled Hartmann make extended tracks for the Yammi, not sure what lengths though.
I freakin' love my Attak, just put on 70 beautiful miles last night, just laughing to myself at how much fun I was having.

I have owned two Attaks, 06 and 07. By far the best overall sleds I've ever driven for high speed trail riding and some light duty offtrail. It is not a deep snow ride. If your really into that buy the mountain version and clutch for flatland running. If I could change one thing about the Attak, I'd like it quieter. Very loud to me. engine, exhaust and track howl. You'll find this a great site! Lots of very knowledgable people willing to share their experience.

Wider skis is a must, and if you wanrt it to float in the powder like a switchback, you will probably have to extend to a 151".
So, it sounds like if I go with the Hartmann 136" to 144" x 2" and a set of Powder hounds would be better than going with a 162" Apex Mtn.
what about skid plates? and suspension? It seems like the GT is done up nicely, but how do you guys like the stock suspension?

My sister runs a Rage and I have rode that machine some and in completely stock form I would agree with the replies everyone has given, but I rode it after she traded her track up to a 1.5" track and it became a whole new machine! It had way better traction and didn't spin a trench everywhere like when it had the factory 1.25" ripsaw track. I would ask your dealer to price the machine with a 1.5" track instead and then you will love it!!
