Was riding last night and my belt vaporized and I mean vaporized. It completely came apart and the fibers wrapped around the secondary so bad that I had to take it off on the side of the trail. It wasn't much fun in the cold and the dark, but I got it apart and cleaned and back together.
Problem is that I didn't pay attention to which holes on each sheve the spring was in. Now it's revving way too fast and overrevving, but at least it made it back on it's own power.
Hoping someone can tell me which holes the stock set up uses. And the second stupid question is how far does the helix need to wrap when replacing it?
Thanks

The black spring with the WHITE stripe LOL. If you look closely you will find a white stripe on 1 of the coils of the spring. I HAVE seen the paint flake off some of my older springs, but you should be able to find it. Not the best system for identification, but it's been the same on all of mine since 1983.

Same thing happend to me a couple weeks ago and could not get all the threads out of the secondary, it was bad enough it was stuck open. Since I was coming home from work after a 12hr. night shift I really didn't feel like taking anything apart so I threw on the spare belt and headed down the trail. After about 1/8th of a mile I stopped to check it out and it unthreaded itself and was running fine. I finished the trip home and cleaned everything up later. Don't know if this is the norm, but it sure worked out nice that time.
