What is this tool that saves time and money?
A PC.
We put a networked PC in the shop a couple years ago for service related documentation/study/research etc.
This year I put a 42" monitor on it so you can stand around it and everyone can see/read.
Just about every type of service you can think of has been done and documented on the web. Having the material or video next to the project really helps.
Then when you have some time you can watch all those cool sled videos on youtube!
Time and money - I looked up changing the serpentine belt on my powerstroke recently. One guy had a $30 tool to reach the idler with a 1/2" drive on the bottom and it looked like a nice find and a 15 minute job.
The next video shows how the idler on the powerstroke has a lever/kickstand that will keep it loose. Pull on belt by hand - move lever up to hold it, change belt. Free and a 10 minute job. Sure you can research this in the house or on your phone but let me tell you, once you have a setup in your shop you will never regret it.
For me a side benefit is the shop (when we aren't working on something) is the quietest place on the property.

I agree
I bought an extender for my wifi.
It allows me to use my ipad out in the yard, shed,driveway,etc.
Recently used it as a step by step guide to change out the timing belt and tensioner on my mothers saturn.
The step by step youtube video turned it into a 30 minute job

yep. i will gett a pc or mac in my garage. Tried it out this winter with a tired old pc and it was so easy to just look up information when i was sitting with my sled in front of me, all i missed then was a holder for my beer(think i have to get a beer helmet
)

Retired the old 19" laptop out of my truck 2 yrs ago it is a permanent fixture on the bench and plays movies (braap) when not used for research - also bugged into the 40" LED with surround sound - must be careful not to start an avalanche for the riders.
