Looking for the best handling mtn ski with good flotation for my 08 Nytro MTX

I have the timbersled rear suspension and skinz up front, and i suffer from heavy steering.

I ride with the original mtx skis right now.

I have about 75psi front shocks, and 95psi in the front and 145psi in rear.
Limiter strap is in 3 hole.

Looking for a ski that steer easy, dont care about darting.

I ride technical

Thanks

your going to need to look for something less aggressive. Something like the SLP SLT skis, or the Polaris grippers should work pretty good.

There is such a thing as too much floatation with skis..

I agree ruffryder, wider isnt always better.. I would look into the Slydog PowderHound 7 cause its light and still does a good job imo.

My best guess is to go for the Slydog Powderhounds 7`or 8`

Dont look to aggressive.

I know the 8` is a bit different in design from the 7`

Just dont know what to go for.

Simmons Generation 1 flexi ski. Great floatation (for a narrow ski ) concave underside and great trail handling with dual runners.

Have you tried to reduce the air up front? I've been experimenting with 55 psi down from 65. Much better pressure for me.

In the stupid deep, it feels like more is ok, if on the trail or the snow is kind of set up, I like less.

Are you a heavier than me? I am 250 and my setup is real close to yours except my rear shock is at 125 and I have an extra shim on the top side of the rear arm and my steering is easy outside of the darting on trail.

Have tried to pump up the pressure, but timbersled say max 95psi, i guess i have to move the shock in the forward mounting position. About 30% increase.

Is the slydog powderhounds making it lighter to stear then the originale ski ?

I have a set of the Polaris gripper skis ordered. Our snow is often wet and heavy (ruffryder can vouch for this, well if he ever gets to ride again ;):D )
Anyway the MTX skis can feel kind of heavy in this type of snow, it will be interesting to see how the Poo skis compare.

yep, very very heavy snow. Like a snow cone!!! I ride everyday for 15 minutes before I start working... ha ha

I hope it does much better, as I plan on picking up a couple of sets next fall. I think the big problem is the keel on the MTX ski. It is really deep and really long and it makes it difficult trying to turn the ski during low speed maneuvers.

I`m about 190 witout gear, think i`l try to go for the slydog 8`, loosen the strap one hole and put a shim on top of the rear arm. The last one i believe is the key.

Have you used a zip tie on the shocks to see the travel. I think 145 in the rear is too much.

I've been running high PSI on front and back because I do lots of 2-up & tandem riding on my Nytro.
I've been lazy and havn't been lowering the PSI to solo rider when I go out for rips.

The sled just wants to keep going straight when Im carving.
it's lots of work to make'er respond to rider input etc... (deep westcoast snow - revy too.)

Could the high shock pressure be doing this?
