Hi all. New to Yamaha and this forum. I have a brand new 2015 Venture GT. I have sledded for 30 plus years, but I have been riding older 2 stroke sleds all my life. I am wondering if the way my new sled clutch engages is normal. It seems to engage "hard" from a complete stop. It doesn't do this when still coasting, just once it has come to a complete stop and I go to accelerate again. I would even describe the engagement as a "clunk". I have read a lot about the problems with this model and brand, but I have not really come across anything about the clutch engagement. It might just be the way this sled is set-up, as I came off of a 1992 Arctic Cat Prowler 440. Also I will add, that in 2015 Yamaha has not fixed the howling from the track when doing 50 kms. I didn't even know that it was a problem for so many years until after my first ride. It is there for sure and I have never had any sled do anything like this before. I guess we live with this problem. Not the end of the world, but it is there. I love this sled already, and I plan on it being my last sled. I think I can make it last 20 plus years no problem. Thanks in advance for any insight into the "hard" or "clunk" at acceleration.

The clunk is not unusual however make sure that your chain tension is set correctly. The chain will stretch quite a bit when new and the looser it is the more clunk you can get. Call Barn of Parts (www.barnofparts.com) and get his primary spring that lowers your engagement. Makes a HUGE difference in the take off of the sled.
Track noise? = annoying as heck isn't it? Have it on my 05 Vector as well as my 14 Vector LTX. I wish SOMEBODY could come up with a surefire solution!

You bought this brand new? Take it to the dealer then, a good portion of that initial cost is for you to be able to take it in whenever there is a problem.Hi all. New to Yamaha and this forum. But remember all new things have an initial wear or break in period, the clutch parts may not have worn in right yet, maybe some parts are sticky, you say it doesnt do it while coasting so thats narrowed it to the initial movements in the clutch sounds like to me.. if it FEELS like something is wrong then take it in and have the dealer look at it. make sure they ride it while you are there and explain the problem. if it just sounds strange i'd let it ride for a bit and see if it changes, track howl is on every sled, the heavier the tunnel the less sound and harmonics youll have. Do you know what dynamat is? they use it in car audio to isolate sound, you can buy multiple cheaper variations pretty much anywhere, try pulling a few wraps under the seat/on the tunnel it should get rid of some of that noise.
at the end of the day its a brand new piece of equipment, they do have issues right off the line

I have a 2014 GT and the noise at 50 or so seems a bit excessive. Ear buds or plugs will help a lot. The clutch issue is something i would be looking into with the dealer. Mine is smooth. other then that, i am impressed with the performance and gas mileage of the snow couch. Keep us posted. RCR

Thanks guys for all the responses. It doesn't seem excessive and in a couple of weeks I will be in for the first maintenance. I will have them go over then. The season is so short I don't want to have it in the shop when I can ride it daily. I have talked to a buddy who has a few years older Apex. He said his engages hard too. I will be meeting up with him tomorrow for a ride and we will swap out rides. I will update. Thanks again.

I'd advise you to at least check your track tension, very easy to do. Sometimes, the nut that locks the chain tension bolt comes lose and as you ride the bolt will loosen along with chain tension.
Within 2 weeks, you could be stranded on the trails, wasting hours and possible damage...something that can be avoided by spending a few minutes on your sled. Familiarize yourself with the basics...save yourself some dough in the process.

Replace your belt with new one. Had a buddy smoke a belt and made a groove which made it clunk. Worth the try.
