Words can't describe just how pi**ed off I am! Add me to the list of casualties - the rear link broke on my 07 Phazer FX after 400 Miles.
Since the beginning of the year, I have had a trip to the Munising area planned with several friends. I was suppose to meet them this Tuesday (Jan 1, 2008), but my sled will not be ready.
The thing that really sucks is that a week after buying the 07 Phazer FX (the so called "rough trail" sled), I heard about the link problem and had my dealer order the update kit. That was over a month ago - STILL NO KIT! I wonder how many rear links Jimmy Blaze broke filming all that video that enticed me into buying this "light, nimble rough trail sled."
I am so damn frustrated. Yamaha engines are smooth and bullet-proof, but from my experience their suspensions have much to be desired in the area of durability: broken w-arms, cracked slide rails, faulty grease zerks, and now a broken link.
There obviously is a problem here. I have continued to buy Yamahas because of perceived reliability. But now it appears I will be waiting at home, while my friends head out on our trip.
I called Yamaha Customer Service, and the parts specialists are not available until tomorrow. The Customer Service person I spoke with was very polite and apologized. However, "I'm really sorry" just doesn't cut it, especially when the link update kit was ordered a while ago.
Anyway, I know that all brands have their problems, and I have never purchased another besides Yamaha. In fact, until this, I have not even thought of buying another brand. I have been loyal almost to a fault, since getting into this sport in 2000. However, I am seriously thinking about switching . . . . . . . . . . . maybe to a 1050 CC InnerTube, which I have heard offers a great ride if filled to the proper air pressure.
Anyway, I feel a little better after getting this off my chest. Thanks for listening.

When it broke, I kicked it, rolled it down a hill, and started it on fire
Actually, I curled up in the fetal position, cried for my mama, and called my wife to pick me up.

Check out the parts box with numbers..it's what you need...real beefy. In the meantime, weld it up..it'll work fine with some additional weld.
