I just busted my rear shock today. Totally wierd as it was not a rough trail and not sure where it happened. Just started bottoming hitting small bumps on the trail so I stopped to check what was going on and saw shock oil all over the place. Any ideas what happened?
Also anyone know of anyone that has one that wants to get rid of it. In a pinch as I have some riding planned coming up as most people would over the christmas time.

I busted the rear shock not the center. Not sure if the shorty shock will fit on the xtx.
Anyone know what the shocks are ctc? How about a mtx se rear shock? I would love to get rid of those torsion springs.

Crazy why your shock broke.
Did you have a rebuild done?
I'm fairly sure Yamaha upped the spring rates for the rear coils xtx model year 2011.
I never liked how my 2009 xtx bottomed out, so I went with the billet 4 click spring rate adjusters. Turned my 09 coils up to max.
But rode all last year and convinced it still wasn't enough. So I bought new stiffer 2011 xtx springs from Yamaha. I hope that I can now adjust back down to a softer setting on the coils springs. Testing will begin in a week or so.

My buddy busted his in the same spot last year too. Thankfully warranty covered his but I do not have warranty any more.
My shock was not rebuilt. It was stock. It can no longer be rebuilt as there is a hole in the side of the casing where it blew out.

I have stock RTX rears and custom fox rears could sell either. they would need a revavel though as they are way stiff

We just replaced my brothers last week. 09 xtx Exact same issue. Hole blown in side and he cant recall when it happened. Looks like over pressurization. (bottoming out)...

Carver had a standard Fox rear for me in stock. No compression or rebound though. It will be enough to get me through the year though I hope. It was a fair price and could get it to me in just a couple days.
It was valved for my weight so that could be a plus.

With proper valving, you shouldn't really need the adjusters. Having the rese is nice for extra volume though.

...broken.
It is an awesome kit. However I paid a local v twin specialist to install it and they did not take the care to check and recheck. Head studs were not torqued to spec or they did not do a warm up and retorque, one or the other. Not that big of a deal. The big deal was that they did not put the bolt in that holds the line to the water pump or did not torque it right. Long and the short is that I drove it 38 miles with out any engine coolant.
So I am in the process of rebuilding my self to make sure it is done right. Should have done it my self from the get go but I do not have a shop and I can not bore the cases. Just working for some money and to pay down the loan I had to take out to have it built. Once I do that I will buy a new cylinder and get it running again.
The motor was actually completely fine to my surprise. The cylinder was un touched (did have yamalube in it), head was not twisted, piston rings were fine as well as everything else. The only damage that came of it was that it pulled the threads out of the cylinder. I have tried time serts to put the threads back in but the one that was really bad did not hold so the sert just popped out. So I have to toss a perfectly good cylinder on the account of just one thread which totally sucks. Only have 100k on the kit.
As far as performance goes, it will wheelie at 20 mph from stabbing the gas. There is no machine on the market that will touch it stock. A modded gade is close but it takes a lot of mods to do it. I am limited in my exhaust and need a larger diameter header to get full gains out of it.
Once I build it right, I have my full confidence in the reliability of this kit. After seeing the inside of my motor after that torture, as long as there is coolant this thing will haul the mail for a very long time. Very impressed. It also runs cooler then stock for some reason. May be more surface area for the coolant and bigger water jackets but I am not sure. Fuel milage is still really good. average about 18 on gravel roads, stock was 20. In the mud and trails it is less but that is a given.
