I am new to this form, I am Buying a used 2005 RX1 what should I look out for before hitting the trails?

remove and check the rear suspension thoruly (rails bearings slides) and ask is the updates where done.

a search in the rx forumn for rx1 mono will show you all the points you need to inspect regularly to have a very low maintenece season.

The biggest area of concern on the 05 is the front W arm on the mono shock rear suspension and the cheap boagie wheels. Other than that the sled is bullet proof.

I have broken several w arms on all 3 of my rx's. I now automatically get them re-inforced and powder coated by Weltracer on this site and install the spoked plastic wheels with replaceable bearings. Complete wheel set is about $ 220.00 and the weld / pwder coating job is $195 plus shipping and you'll never have to do anything to it again - other than typical grease oil and bushing inspections.

I would agree with everyone about the 05 RX1 Suspension. Throroughly, check the suspension. Check where the limiter strap is and the limiter on the bottom of the W Arm. Any cracks? I bought a 05 RX1 late last season for cheap and now I know why. I rode it 3 times and the suspension literally fell apart. I spent too many hours and too much $$$ repairing it. I bought a 06 Suspension and beefed it up(HalfBakedPowderCoating), spoked wheels and rebuild the MonoShock. If I was you, I would avoid it and save yourself the headache. The 05 Suspension is a nightmare! If you like the 05 RX1 buy the next years model, 06 Apex with a better suspension and Beef it up. My 2 cents. :o|

Not to quibble but the 06's and 07's had just about the same amount of probs. Its just a part of the yamaha legacy to deal with.

WE now know what it takes and I myself who puts 4 to 6 k miles on a sled each yr feel that the rest of the sled makes it worth investing in the rear end to get it right. I personally spend another $1,000 on the front ends (shocks, skis & swaybars). I am buying used sleds that cost 4K and add $1500 and have a sled that nothing will beat. And parts are plentyful and cheap. I have spare hoods, suspensions...... Just my $1 worth
