Need to replace my 06 Apex track before it becomes an issue and was thinking of going with either the Ice Ripper or Ice Attack track. The cost is more for them than unstudded tracks but after purchasing studs and backer plates it maybe cheaper, plus it sounds like it is a weight reduction too and less spinning mass which helps the HP. So has anybody purchased them and how would you rate them as compared to traditional studded track and life expectations

I highly recommend them, I have had two with over 15,000 miles logged on them and they work great and hold up very well! I did not put tunnel protectors at first and they did scratch the heat exchanger so I would recommend that you install them? I assume if you had studs previously the protectors are already on your sled?

I had over 9000 km on my Nytro before trading it in. The Ripsaw XT still looked new and the tips of the studs were still all there and sharp.

Keep in mind they are not as aggressive nor provide the traction as a tradionally studded machine, but more than adequate for the trails.

This past spring, I installed the Ice Attack on my Apex. I look forward to testing it out this season, it should be better than the Ripsaw XT.

Also, I will have no worries about studs bending/pulling/tearing out and damaging the exchanger. No maintenance required.

Absolutly loved mine on my 07 and just bought one for my 12 just the right amount of traction with out over doing it.

My experience with the ICE ripper 128 is more about me than the track. No doubt better on Ice than no studs, holds up great so far just 1000 miles on it.
But that I am hooked and hard acceleration I had with 144 1.4 inch studs in my first track 10k miles is not there - I spin and that is way less fun than hook and GO!

So track is good, I need (OK like) the accelleration part of speed more than I realized.

True not concerned with throwing stud through protector but hey had not done that since 1999 on XTC 700.

My two cents.

atack VS ripper 1/4" of lug and about 5 lbs i like the attack as it is lighter and has a little more speed top end and with the studs sticking out the 1/4" it is the same size as stock.

The Ripsaw XT and Ice Attack XT each have their own tread patterns...with the lugs on the Attack more paddle like, which theoretically should handle looser snow better. The lugs are firmer too. The Ice Attack is a newer design which theoretically, should offer better performance. Also, I think the track clips on the Attack are all solid, versus the Ripsaw's weight saving drilled out pattern.

Google the 2 tracks, and compare them against each other, then make your own decision. It would be quite difficult to set up a head to head comparison...you would need 2 identical sleds, and each set up identically.

you will have to put tunnel protectors back in if you go studded. :moon:

I don't think I would actually with one of these tracks, as long as I watched that my track wasn't ballooning too badly.

maybe but i have hear reports of the exup getting hit with the tunnel protectors in on the 11 and newer sleds with the ripper track just be carefull you will love it if you do it it dont make the sled feel any heavier like conventional studs but will give you that extra traction that will keep the track in the back and the skis out front on a lake run or road run also when you stop on pavement and the carbides dig and the track just spins and the car is comming yeah that wont happen with this track either.but when the trail is good it feels like a stock track. imho best track option for how i ride.

The Ice Attak XT is more of solid lug design and with a 1.22" lug.The Ice Ripper XT is based off the Ripsaw and with a 1.25" lug.The Attack will be slightly better is loose snow and the Ripper will be better in hardpack. The Ripper is also 1lb. lighter.Pretty tough choice and ends up to what you prefer.

Love my Ice Attak. If you're looking for safety in icy corners and stopping power, these things are awesome. Thats what i was after and it works great for that without the worry of throwing a stud through a heat exchanger. If you're looking to hook up on bare ice in a drag race, you probably won't be happy.

The Ice Attak XT is what I put on mine after last season on a sled with this track. It hooks up great on trails and the paddle like lugs seem to grab and throw snow a lot more than a traditonal ripsaw, which is what the ripper is based off of.
