took the sled out for the first time today and i love it.
however i have a concern with partial throttle.
it feels like the engine is misfiring at part throttle.
so when i am cruising down the trails at 30 mph it feels like its only running on 2 cylinders and it is rough running.
when i open it up to 40mph + everything smooths out nicely.
is this normal?
thanks

There's no lag on the motor,
You should feel power right through the throttle range.

starts well.
idle around 1500?
i dont recall seeing it lower than that.

Are you just hearing an droning noise from the exhaust, or is there an actual bog happening at that speed? A very annoying drone from the exhaust around that same speed in normal.

yes, theres a big drone at that speed.
what bothers me is this shaking/vibration as if it doesnt like the partial throttle and it just wants to go WOT.
just raising concern as i am a newbie to sleds.

Sounds like you're just experiencing the exhaust drone. Not really much you can do about it other than stay out of that RPM range as much as possible. It's harmless though.

Not if its missing though ~ exhaust drone sucks but the motor still runs smooth...langow said:Sounds like you're just experiencing the exhaust drone. Not really much you can do about it other than stay out of that RPM range as much as possible. It's harmless though.

There's never a time when you feel like it's running on 2 cylinders on a Yamaha 4 stroke
You will hear a drone but the motor is still smooth there's no shaking/vibration on a Yamaha
Check it over...

It's hard to say. The drone could be interpreted as a vibration. I think we really need to know if there is a performance loss with this or not. He didn't indicate that there was.

Re: car guy and new to sleds, question about my used 2006 ap
Any known mods done prior to you purchasing it, clutch, engine etc?

from what i know it is all stock.
it came with a new track and i studded and put a seat jack before hitting the trails.
maybe the drone is creating the vibration throughout. again, anything above 40mph and its super smooth. i have nothing to compare it to HP wise because its the only sled i've driven.

My favorite thing about an Apex!!!!
The drone never bothered me much. The vibration could me numerous things beyond the drone (which I doubt). From warped idler wheels to driveshaft going bad.

Do you have access to someone familiar with an Apex to get an opinion that way? Might help.
My guts says you're just experiencing the exhaust drone. I can't think of any engine issue that would let the engine start and idle normally, run on 2 cylinders at 30MPH, then run beautifully all the way to WFO. Anythings possible I suppose, but....
