09' Nitro. 6500 miles. Changing chain case oil for the first time. The old oil looks the color of Hersheys chocolate. Light tannish creamy brown color. Is this normal color for old oil? Should I be concerned with possible moisture leaking into the chain case? Should I just change the oil, not worry about it and run it? What brands of oil are good quality besides OEM? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

First thing is that the oil should of been changed a long time ago. The heating and cooling of the case may cause moister but then the oil would be milky. Mostly the oil is over heated and full of metal. If you at going to let it go that long you should use Amsoil 75w90.

It wouldnt hurt to swop all chain case bearings out since it is apart. Seal may be going and allowing moisture in there.

Yes take apart and clean the inside. Check/replace bearings as necessary. You should change engine oil and chain case oil every year (cheap insurance).
