stupid question but what is all involved in changing out the rear axel wheels on a xtx? do you need to drop everything? or just loosen the track?

If you hold your tongue the right way it can be done. Loosen the track and pay attention to where the flat washers are located.
Another thing to keep an eye on are the adjusters, the threaded rod is offset to direct it towards the track opening (I'm 95% on that, fuzzy memory).

In other words the adjuster rods point away from the center of the track..Crewchief47 said:If you hold your tongue the right way it can be done. Loosen the track and pay attention to where the flat washers are located.

I seem to remember mine both pointing in one direction to center themselves in the windows properly..
Also don't force the axle with much force.. Its fairly soft aluminum and will gouge if its not run thru the spacers and track adjusters smoothly.. (and then if it gouges its a pain to pull back out as it jams in there... and then you have to file it smooth again once you do get it out
)
I used a strap to pull my track backwards, to hold up the slack and was able to do it myself, with a broken hand at the time.

Yup make sure you have these the correct way, I did mine and put them the wrong way. What a pain in arse........didn't want to take it back out to change them around

With the strap pulling the track back it made it a whole lot easier. I too put one of the adjusters in the wrong way the first time. So I pulled it all back out and had it all back in the right way in less then 2 minutes the 2nd time around.. (As mentioned with a broken hand) - not having to pull/hold the track by hand at the same time is a major help.
It doesn't take a lot of force either, simply tying it to something in the garage will work as long as your skis are on the ground.. Or you chock your lift to keep it from rolling.
