I have been slowly losing coolant on my 03, top it off, and it just goes away.. i went out to change the plugs today, and noticed that there is a white crust around the coolant pipe going into the head nearest the belt.
the crust also has made its way down to the spark plug, as it is rusted and has the same white crust on the plug, not the business end, the ceramic end and the hex head.

what is the sealent method on this pipe? a gasket, rubber o-ring? is this a normal problem?

heres a pic of what i am looking at..

I't got an o ring on it and tightens up with a allen screw. Have you ever had it apart ? When I took mine off I put a little rtv sealer on it just to be sure, Ken.

Grifter, How much are you losing? I would fill mine to the level line and it would drop, fill it to the line again and it would drop. Found out that the full line was just a bit too much coolant for my sled. It was comming out of the overflow tube until it got to its comfort level. Left it where it wanted to be and have not lost any since. This was talked about on the site when the sleds first came out. Hope this helps.

192 Woodys - i never really paid attention to how much i put in, i just mixed some up, and put it in. there is nothing in the coolant fill bottle right now, hot or cold.

givemeaboost - i have never had it off. Do these seals eer dry out and go bad? or could it just not be aligned right from the factory? either way, i should pull it off and get a new o ring and RTV it..

If it's an 03' it's common. Used to happen on mine as well. 192 Woody's has it right.

Check the level after you have ridden it and it is warmed up well. If you see coolant in the tank it has enough.

There's no way it could be in there crooked but the tab that the screw goes through may have gotten bent when it was put together , hard to say. It might just be a defective o ring, Ken.

my 05 had a puddle of coolant in that spot all weekend. It never seemed to get any better or worse.

My bottle is always empty. I'll fill, and within a few miles its empty again.

My 04 tends to find home at the lower end of the scale as well. Every so often I add some but it drops. Was worried about a head gasket leak at one time but didn't seem to be a problem. Simply disappears I suspect out the overflow when running doen the trail. Looks like a common problem.
