Finally got the clutching figured out. The first victom was a zr900 that they just got back(1000 kit), crushed him badly. Next was a 02 mach z , same thing, motor ported and piped dynoed at 189 hp. Came out even for a 100 feet and then pulled away to 20 sleds at 1000ft.. All they could say was that they never saw a turbo come out of the hole so hard. All this at 7.5 lbs of boost.

PS All the stock stuff was fun to beat at 3/4 throttle.

meat, my trail kits use the 25r, its the best choice unless you intend to make more than 300 hp, my lakerace kits use the 28r, but unless you intend to run higher boost levels, its not as good as the 25r. jeff

Jeff, is it worth while to add a thick head gasket or pistons? what would a person gain, and would you lose throtle response?

I run low compression pistons with Jeff,s turbo. Low end punch & throttle response is awesome. The lower compression probably helps my holeshot due to the fact the lower compression makes the sled come out of the hole slightly less aggressive & you can allmost get some traction. Throttle response is same as a stock sled.

Turk, did you replace the pistons yourself, or did you have somene else do it? First inquiry at a dealer in MI quoted me > $2500 for labor alone - just for the pistons.

Turk, I did not take them up on thier "offer", I'm trying to get a knowledge base on what it should cost! Plan on making the leap after the season. Will, your low compressions pistons allow you to run pump premium at boost >8 lb

You can run regular on 8 pounds as long as you don,t do long lake runs...10 pounds boost for sure on premium ...might try 12.Should take the dealer 12-14 hours max to swap pistons. All My parts & labour plus updating jackshaft bearing...was less then 1/2 CDN $$$ then what you were quoted.

the base turbo kit is designed to work great with a stock engine at 7.5 pounds boost, if you want to run more boost just add some race gas. Installing low compression pistons and thicker head gaskets allow you to run higher boost levels on pump gas, or go to extremely high boost levels on race gas, i have run the stock engine with my base trail turbo kit on race gas at 15 lbs boost and it made 265 hp. i would start there because i don't bullshit about hp, and 265 hp on my dyno will definately scare you. start slow and get used to the power before you think you don't have enough. the trail kit will still get you to nearly 300 hp with pistons, race gas, higher boost, and more exhaust mods. jeff

I paid my dealer $400 labor and gaskets to do my pistons and rods. I pulled the engine and reinstalled it.
