hey guys, has anyone cracked theyre chain case yet. i was breakin trail and must of hit a rock, not hard just a little crack, well it leaked out the oil and being night time, i couldnt see that,so i guess theres another chain that got starved for oil, and they think without takin it apart that got wrecked. where this is cracked it is very vulnerable so be careful.the one part is 600 lol,one guy called it the frame and the other said it was a chain case, i could turn it into insurance but i dont think itll be worth it, has anyone welded the cast before with any sucsess? thanks

I welded mine when it broke. Then the second time it broke when I hit a rock I replaced it. The part wasn't that expensive and pretty easy to change

i beleive its cast, i lost oil and took out the top chain also is what the dealer thinks, im talking a slight crack also, id put some armor under it for sure as it will happen easy imo

Hmm weleding it was not that hard. But as far as easy to do It only happens if you hit something. The same rock that took mine took the heat exchanger and whole front end out of an XP. If you hit a Hard non movable object with any sled damage will occur

Is that area covered/protected by the skid plate that Yamaha sells?

Tks,

I teach metal shop and without knowing the metalurgy of the case I can't accurately answer your question of welding it or not. If it is simple cast aluminum it is not hard to weld providing you prep it correctly.

I took mine to a Prop repair shop that specializes in welding all I know is he told me it was ok to weld and when it rebroke his welds were still there and it broke in a new spot

yea your right but this is in an area that will definately hit something sooner or later, and on other sleds theres far better protection imo atleast something to absorb the blow in the pahzers case it , it is the case lol chaincase
