i fugured the gas was freezing up, so i added some gas line antifreeze and about a half hour after it would start..... the only thing is that i'm not sure that was the problem or if it was just a coincidence that it started

I would check your battery. My MTX did this to me last year out west and I put it on a charger and it was only about 50%. It seems that it will not crack fast enough.

could it be that fuel relay was stuck, did you here it cycle?

Pull your plugs and check them out, I've had that happen, started an apex and pulled it in the garage and shut it down, went to start it and plugs were fouled, it would just crank and crank. This happens because the motor doesn't get warmed up enough so it uses a lil too much fuel and fouls the plugs.

If the lines are frozen the gas line anti freeze will not thaw them,so thats not your problem. If its cranking over everytime, not slowly cranking like the batterys dead, then the battery is not your problem either. I would check the fuel pump relay, I have read about problems with it and I think there is an updated relay yamaha made. Sounds like thats your problem especially since it doesn't start after you were riding. It gets ice in it and doesn't close. I know the relay is under the shroud were your left knee is,3rd or 4th one in. Check your manual.

Last trip, my brothers attak was running great, a few hours in the bar, then crank crank crank. Had to crank the heck out of it to start.
Rest of night = fine. Next morning same problem. Changed plugs, no help. Took to dealer and needs new stator!
Try this, pull one plug and coil. plug in spark plug and check spark. His would spark once or twice, then nothing.

In Quebec on our last trip we stopped for gas. One apex wouldn't start. Checked fuel pump relay ok. We took out two plugs that were dry. Checked for spark . No spark. After putting headlight pod back on code 12 came up (crank sensor). Went to dealer who said stator was gone . New stator and everything good after that. We were told stators not an issue with the apexs but that now 2 of them.
