I rode with new group of experienced riders yesterday. Their sleds included a Polaris escape with some big bore kit, stock 800 polaris, 800 revs, 800 summits ZX, a 900 cat and an 06 600rmk 144 with this super hot big bore kit making 150-160hp. We have gotten at least 3 feet of new snow in the past few days. My stupid sled was highmarking all of them. It was feaky. I was blasting up untouched where they were confined to running up the tracked and shooting off. It makes no sense what so ever. Granted, all the other riders were between 190 and 250lbs where I only weigh 135. My kid and I are scratching our heads. My kid keeps switching between his 800zx and mine and shaking his head. He say my sled feels like it has at least 20 more hp than his. He has his pinned and he's grinding up the hill. Mine seems to rocket and accelerate. You can't even stay into the throttle. My question: is it at all possible for a stock rx1 to make more than the 140 (or 137hp you see in mag. dyno)? There is no other explanation. I gotta try and get some video of my sled climbing againt one of these guys. The 600rmk seemed to pull the closest and it had a 144x2.4in track. Will a 2.4 fit in a rx1 with stock size drivers?

It must be your incredible skill and technique!!! Sounds great....I have not been able to get mine to climb quite as well as yours does. I can climb ok but I can't hang with a rev 800 in really steep stuff but I am heavy. I also think that the gearing I am using 20/42 might be a little short for climbing but OMG is it great for boondocking. Sorry we couldn't hook up....Blewitt was great. We were way back in there and there were fields of untouched snow with 2-3' all day long. Maybe you need to come up to Baker when we get the next sunny day and we'll check it out.

Dude i am a flat lander but look at it this way you are light! lol shaving 80 lbs off the sled dont help either. power to weight ratio is prolly the best explaination.

I've already ruled out "skill and technique". If my sled couldn't climb over trees as well as it does I'd never get where I want to be going.

Trxster- Glad Blewitt was a blast. How did your pipe work out? Did you get the snow you need to get into your areas a Baker?

You might as well go ahead and turbo it and then go to the Big Iron Shootout up in Revy. Who knows, you might even win it, Ken.

Kach,

Let me tell ya, I will be frothing at the mouth waiting to see a video of your sled 4 bang those sleds you rode with!

Are you running stock gearing Kachess? I can't remember. I know you are clutched but geared? My sled is a animal right now too! No lie.....when I am going up a hill and pin it, it just starts spinning the track. It's almost like you can't use full throttle or you'll just start digging! I've almost been wondering if I am over-geared or something. I just keep waiting for something to let loose!

The 800 must not have been running on all cylinders. There is no way a lightened RX-1 runs with an 800 Rev. Either that or your sled is a freak of nature. I can't totally call BS because I havent seen anything but, post video some time.

I posted a while ago that an 06 800 rev highmarked me pretty consistantly in deep, steep, fresh powder. His track area was definitely an advantage. Where I trenched, he floated. On drag races up less steep powder hills we were neck and neck every time. Drag races on the trail he was slower off the line and slower on top end. I don't think a 06 800 rev has a hp advantage over an RX1. The 07 rev will be another story. No new video. I went thorough our recent footage and it ain't too good. Always snowing, bad lighting, never filming when the riding is good. Some old footage:

Sounds cool Kachess. The advantage right now is the weight, in 07 it will be HP and it will be light as a feather, nothing will touch it stock. My friend who has a 1000 Summit X is trading his in for an 07 800 when they come out.

When a guy on an 06 rev has to carry 3.5 gals of gas on the back, and he outweighs me by 80lbs the weight advantage goes away. The newer 2-stroke sleds are supposed to get mileage equal or better to a 4stroke, but the ones I've ridden with seem to suck fuel just like the old ones, and all still have to carry extra gas. Especially climbing. And they are supposed to run so clean, but still leave an oil stripe in the snow when they take off. The rev 1000 is always in a cloud of smoke, and they sure don't stink any less.

I think lots of it has to do with snow conditions as much as anything. I rode 3 days last week with 2 800 Poo's, an 03 800 summit x 159 (ZX), a 04 KK 162 Titanium and a modded MM700 the snow was deep and fairly heavy. I marked all the sleds everyday including the KK. I mean it wasn't even close I just pointed my sled at whatever and it just kept on going. In the heavy snow the Maverick really shines as will any track that is a little stiffer. The KK with the 162 attack 20 in powder postion was stuck all over the place cause the paddles just folded over. The thing that was great is I could crawl when the 2 stokes had to be really on it. All and all I was both pleased and somewhat surprised at how stong the sled was. Another buddy rides a 04 800 Rev lightened 151 and I can climb with him although he wasn't with us on the last trip for comparison. Its too bad more guys haven't tried the lightened non turbo RX cause I also think its an underated sled. Happy as I am I'm still putting my turbo kit on.

First off, I don't get it either but I sure like to hear this stuff. Somehow i don't feel nearly as outgunned with my RX-1M as I once did. Thanks

Second- why get a turbo when you are already beating these guys without one? Once you put a turbo on anything you do they will say is because "he has a turbo".

I personally think making believers out of the unwashed with a non turboed RX-1M dwarfs any inroads you'll make into the two stroke psyche once you have a turbo on your sled.

I see in one of the new snowmobile magazines that the Apex kicked the snot out of the other big iron even though it is heavier and has less horsepower. There's just something different about the way four stroke horse power is put to the ground. I'm quite certain it has more to do with the "Girth" of the powerband that provides considerable power right off idle compared to the relatively narrow and "peaky" powerband of the two stroke sleds.
