200 miles isnt enough to just say u dont like it you have to set it up for your riding style and play around with it to get the right set up for you and if you over 200 pounds then you need the big boy spring and what exatcually was wrong with the handling

Many of us have talked about the nusance noises from the track, and something the gives off a tinny rattle somwhere under the dash area. I ride an'06 GT, and sure I have a few complaints, but at the end of the day, I know I'll have a sled that'll go the distance. I'm with rage man, give it some time, spend some time reading back posts. These guys collectively spend more time researching and developing than most engineers! You'll enjoy that sled for sure, just get it set up for your riding style. Sounds to me like you need a long track kit. I'm no expert in the mountain department, but I'm sure if you were to have the same track as your Cat, you'll never look at Cat again!
Even if your mileage isn't phenominal, the lack of iol purchases, and not smelling like a chainsaw is more than worth it!
Don't worry, you didn't make any mistakes, welcome to the Family!!!

I have an 2007 Attak GT and I love it. I am not sure why you were concidering an apex or attak because it sounds like you are mountain riding. the apex mountain would be best. If you purchase a attak, camoplast has a 1 3/4 track that will more than do the job in the powder. the 1 1/4 isn't too bad in the soft stuff but it spins too much. the extra 1/2 inch will make the world of differance from what I have seen.
You are right, I need more seat time and tinkering time with this sled to make a more informed judgement. One issue that I know I have is my lack of understanding of the Yamaha sled set up. I can open the hood on a Cat, Polaris or Doo and have a good understanding of what is under the hood and what I can do with it, not so with the Apex.
I do try to take 3 or 4 trips to the mountains each year but I did not buy this Apex for that use, I will stick to the 162" M7 Cat for that and the wife will continue to use the 136" Crossfire. The only reason I took the sled to the mountains this year was to put a few miles on it because of lack of snow in MN.
Yes I am over 200lbs so I will probably need the heavier rear springs. Any idea what the part number is?
Any opinions about the best skis to put on the Apex?
Thanks

I would send the shocks to Bruce at Pioneer for a re-valve to your weight and riding style. I've heard nothing but rave reviews of his work, and mine are on the way there soon.
As far as skis, that issue has been debated here 1000 times over, and the only thing I can say is that anything is an improvement, and it comes down to what you want to spend. I personally have the Woody's Dooleys on mine, and it worked good, but if I didn't spend the $160 on billet ski handles, I probably would have bought a set of Doo Pilots. I've heard alot of positives about those.
As far as opening the hood and knowing whats going on.... The only thing you'll probably mess with might be the clutch, and Yamaha is uber simple to install a kit on. Other than that, the gas filler is on top!!
Just kidding, yes there is alot going on under there, but it truly is a turn-the-key and ride machine, You'll get used to playing with it, only that you'll want to- not have to!

I would consider pilot skis
Pilot skis for the money are good improvement over stock skis. You can use all the existing hardware off original skis. The handles need to be trimmed, but easy to do if you have grinder. I would recommend the latest ski pn 505072154 rh and pn 505072155 lh and two bumpers (stoppers) pn506151233 and have to reverse bushings on ski. With skis, bumpers and carbides 250$ includes shipping. Hope this helps!!
