I traded my Vector in last night and I'm thinking I let it go to cheap. It was an 06 gt with 5,300 miles. Black and chrome very nice condition, not a scratch on it anywhere. Bottom line is he gave me 4000 on trade for a new vector 2010 gt still haven't decided on long or short track. If I buy short track new cost me 9400 plus tax or 136 track will be 9600 plus tax. When I dropped it off last night dealer could believe how nice it was he commented three different times how nice and clean it was. My thought was I could have probably got more by selling in out right but there where three or four selling around here with less miles for 4500. For that money I would rather pay the less tax, between the two there was only 60 difference than walking in with the cash and I pulled all my good stuff off ie; skis, 13mm sway bar, tank bag, skid plate. I think I got a good deal on the new one over a thousand of list, which I understand is all a numbers game, if he shows me more for my trade I pay more for the new one. Just something not sitting right with me only seeing that 4000 thousand on the paper for trade. it's been bothering since I left there last night, The cool thing is how excited my wife is to get a new sled this will be her first she always got my hand me downs, she like a little kid in a candy store. It means a lot to me that we both enjoy the sport so much and doing it together it has made for a ton of great memories and I guess in the end its hard to put a price on that. Sorry to be so long winded just thinking out loud. What do you guys think did I let it go to cheap?

I think you did pretty good personally. Considering the times, the fact that it was a trade in. Could you have gotten more for it by selling yourself, probably, but could you have actually sold it, is the question. I sat on my Apex for months, then settled for almost a grand less than I was asking in the begining. It just becomes a waiting game and with the cost of new machines, needing to sell before buying is more common. Also I am always suprised at how beat some sleds are. My Apex had 7,000 miles but looked like it only had 2 or 3000 miles. Most people don't care for there machines the way a lot of us on here do. The reaction I got when the buyer came to pick up my Apex was WOW, this thing really has 7,000 miles on it, it looks new!

YOu could have sold it outright for more but on a trade not bad. On another note if you want to sell your sway bar let me know!!!

what dealer did you go to. thats not a bad price they gave you. youll see it advertized for around 5000. selling outright in this area is kinda tough. because of our trail system around here everybody rides the lightweight revs and f cats. i got so much flak last year when i bought my rtx from the riding guys, until i wasnt filling my tank on a 100 mile loop and i was right on their #*$&@ the whole time. its a great feeling when you can skip a gas station stop and not say hey anyone have any oil? my oil lights been on for like 15 miles lol

I think you did great for trade in value considering this economy. I was quoted only 2300 bucks for trade in value for my 05 Rage and that had 1700 miles on it!!!! Most I saw from trade in values (if the dealer was taking trades) was 3k, and that dealer was playing with his numbers in that I had to pay more for the machine compared to the local guy who was giving me 2300 bucks. Those were all against 2010 retail value machines too!!! I found a left over 2009 Blue Nytro XTX that I wanted, and saved thousands on the left over price, all while getting the color I truly liked. I was also one of those lucky guys able to take advantage of the Yamaha Spring Voucher warranty which made the deal that much sweeter giving me solid piece of mind, and hopefully resale value should I decide to move to another Yamaha in a couple years.
I posed the same question a couple weeks back and got some great feedback from the guys on this site. They all told me not to sell for less that 4k which ultimately ended up happening just last week to a fella from Canada who raved about the machine once he saw it in person. Mine was only a 05 so the suspension wasn't as nice as your 2006 GT, but the mileage was nothing. Most people put 1700 miles on a machine in one year easily.
Since I got such a great deal in 2005, I was able to get back almost 65% of my money on a machine that was turning 5 years old this year. I'm pretty happy about that. I think you did pretty good for a trade in value!!! Besides, if the Mrs. is happy, you can't put a price on that.

So much for the high trade in value of a Yamaha we were always told about!

06vectorGT- I kind of agree but considering the economy and all can't complain to much. Also think of what I what have got if it was a 2 stoke with five thousand miles probably half that on trade.

resale value considerations
You got a GREAT deal for your trade in! I've talked with several dealers and they want to give me 3000.00 "hard money" for my 07 Apex Mnt. with 8000.00 in extra's. They'll give more but it only increases the end price of the new machine. I've talked with friends and they aren't seeing any more then that some even less....our machines are NICE and worth much more so you did well! Congrats!!
