- Does anyone have have some hints or tricks about using a Digital Camera in cold weather conditions? Zero and below ... with wind chill.

- Santa brought me a Canon Powershot sx210is and I can't get the damn thing to stay on when I remove it from my coat to take pics. :banghead:

- I used to have a Panasonic Lumix which was fine in the cold, but this new beast shuts off just as soon as I turn it on.

- I'm thinking it's the battery, but not 100% sure.

- What's everyone doing with their cameras?

- All help is appreciated!

i also have a canon and it is hard on batteries,in the cold it shuts off on me also, but they are 1 tough camera, mine is beat up pretty bad and still works like a charm,1 trick, use lithium batteries, expensive but last alot longer

Lithium is the ticket! I use them year round now just so I don't have to worry about having dead batteries because i forgot to re-charge.

If you are planning on using the camera alot one day snowmobiling when it is cold I would put the camera in a thick sock, put it in a pocket that is inside your jacket that is close to your body. If you need more throw a little heat pack in that pocket with it. That being said Lithium batteries will help.

i owned a powershot, it would turn off after taking it out of my jacket because of the moisture in my pocket. the camera has a safety feature to prevent it from powering on when the is moisture present. try keeping it in a ziploc bag. worked for me.

- Never thought it'd be that???
- I'll try it.
- Heading out later this week.

I wrap mine up in a towel and put in the back storage area where it stays warm while you are riding-- that is a heated compartment. Just put your bare hand in there on a trail stop, warm and dry. Just make sure there is enough stuff in there to keep it from bouncing around.

I use two of those shake and bake handwarmer packets in my backpack with my camera inside if a winter hat.. dont have any issues.. but it rarely gets below zero, we r usually riding around 20F.
