Well I tore my 2008 Nytro RTX apart today to have a look at the exhaust donuts and as I thought they were pretty much disintegrated. (4500 miles-never changed!) Just a few little parts left. The flanges still look good which is great! I notice there are a few different brands of copper ones out there. The OFT Racing ones are a lot more $$$. Are they all that much better? Also the heat shield took a real beating and the insulation is almost gone. What should I do for a replacement? Anything else to watch out for while she's torn down??
While I'm at it I was gonna put an aftermarket muffler on. Any recommendations? The stock one is frickin huge - big as my cars muffler.

I went with oft copper donuts, couple reasons, there made in USA (not china) and I heard alot of good things about there products. Other things you might want to do is repair the heat shield insulation which you could find at an auto parts store or from your yami dealer and replace spark plugs since you have great access to them.

Crewchief is also in Southern Ontario. About 5000km's and they are still holding up great on my phazer!

Just my opinion, nothing against the copper doughnuts, just put them in a friends sled. But I have had the stock ones last four to five thousand miles, for the cost of less than fourth bucks I don't think the oem ones are that bad. Now they also come with new bolts for the clamps with every doughnut.
I installed the sledtoyz in two of my rx1's the quality is second to none and they fit perfectly. Dont let the fact they are made in china fool you. He only had them made there to save you money.

Just changed mine for the second time. I have 11,000 miles on my sled. I used OEM's again.Mazz said:Just my opinion, nothing against the copper doughnuts, just put them in a friends sled. I would rather spend the extra bucks and just not worry about it again unless a different part of the system fails.

i have put copper dognutz in both my nytros OFT...stockers go by 3800miles...u can usually hear the clamp rattling on the pipe when one goes...once one goes, the others arent far behind. oft may be pricey but they make nice stuff to make your nytro last. also chinese ones on ebay take like a month to come in...read the fine print
also lub your front balljoints and they last alot longer. my 09 that i lubed from day one is still tight on the tie rod ends...altho lube couldnt save the a-arm balljoints or bushings.
oh and check your spindle-ski bolts...as they eat up pretty quick. yamaha uses 2 2 piece bushings without a spacer...equals ovaled spindles...at the very least ad a washer against spindle to stop the oval effect!! upbushman makes a nice 1 piece stainless bushing kit.

Thanks guys, ordered some copper ones today. Was wondering what that rattle was under there on my last ride! Gonna do the plugs too since they are right there in front of me.
Would putting some of that orange heat resistant silicone over the bare aluminum spots on the heat shield where the insulation got burned off be ok?
